And seriously, double extra fuck you to the newbie Paul trolls who show up here pretending to some kind of anti-war moral purity, while pimping for a knuckle-dragging racist homophobic shitbag who if he hadn't gotten into medical school would probably have moved to a cabin in Idaho and started building bombs.

I think deep down that Ron Paul and his loonies know that if the social safety nets are torn down then the military will have to come home, because it'll have to be used to police the madness that Ron Paul proposes.

(18,672 posts)Is it worth it to elect Ron Paul if he could legalize pot? They say, "maybe". I say, "NO!" - he is a homophobic, misogynist, racist piece of shit, however, there are some people so weary of the mindless "War on Drugs" that they would be willing to consider voting for him if he could end it all. I'm not one of those people - being cynical and believing that he would be like every other politician once he got in office. The Federal drug raids would resume. I want this stupid war on marijuana to end, but Ron Paul is not the answer, my friends.

(1,734 posts)I don't get your political purity test. Racism, sexism, and homophobia are abhorrent, but on the other hand, Obama claims the power to assassinate American citizens. Is racism really worse than a President putting a drone strike on your head? I'd rather be alive and marginalized by a racist than killed by a man who probably doesn't hate me just because of my race.
By your logic, you could never possibly vote for someone who assassinates Americans, including teens. What about Obama's homophobia?
Do you vote? How?

Many very smart people argue that racism is actually necessary to waging war. It is certainly always prevalent during the process of manufacturing consent. When political leaders need war, the system inevitably turns to stereotypes and other means of instilling racist contempt in the population. And our government -- including the current administration -- often takes up with racist, misogynistic, homophobic 'allies' in the interest pushing a self-serving foreign policy agenda.
Introspection is often highly frowned upon, however, during election season.

(350 posts)there is no such thing as an anti-war Republican, (3) judging by the Des Moines Register poll yesterday, Paul is the only factor that will delay the coronation of Romney as long as possible and delaying the coronation helps Obama, (4) if Paul runs as a third-party candidate, he hurts Romney more than Obama, and (5) if the Paulista wingnuts were not supporting Paul, they would probably be supporting some other wingnut who might actually have a chance at affecting the national debate (or -- worse still -- they'd be pushing Palin to enter the race).
Paulistas are just like unwanted religious missionaries who knock on your door to interrupt your weekend in order to offer you half-baked literature you don't want: you could get furious, but the easiest and best thing to do is to politely send them away.

Decades of the most hideous anti-minority rhetoric out of Congress, and nary a cross word was spoken. The sudden Paul awareness is good to see, although the reasons for it and the long delay in commencement do paint it as temporary electoral paranoia. It seems affected, to an extent.

Any one of those GOP candidates (outside of Mitt Romney) would be happy to overturn Civil Rights laws, treat homosexual as mental degenerates and make women second class citizens - they just won't come out and say it the way Ron Paul does. At least with Ron Paul he puts on paper exactly what he stands for but those other GOPers will try to pussyfoot around these issues until elected but then do whatever they can to ruin any civil right movements advancement over the ages.

(8 posts)I'm not a newbie to DU but I rarely post. I don't support Ron Paul or most of his policies. But he is the only candidate addressing and speaking out against a few policies I don't support. I don't support war, especially endless war. I don't support torture. I don't support indefinite detention without charges, conviction or due process for anyone, including US citizens. I don't support the imperial presidency as practiced by Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr. or Obama. I don't support the assassination of US citizens because a President just decrees it. I don't support the corrupt looting of the American middle class by the banker class (specifically aided and abetted by all the same Presidents I listed above.) I don't support the all out war on whistleblower's who expose corruption. They are heroes, not criminals. I don't support the ever growing police state. I don't support the ever growing surveillance state. I don't support the mass spying on Americans. I don't support the Obama administrations refusal to go after the worst financial criminals in world history. I don't support the Fed's implosion of the US economy through outright theft.
There is no other Republican candidate addressing these issues. The only Democratic candidate (and current President) is responsible for taking many of these policies farther than they've ever been taken in this country, so I'm not really looking to him anymore for solutions to these problems.
I think it does little practical good (beyond just venting) to say "Fuck Ron Paul." I've been a registered and voting liberal, progressive Democrat my entire adult life. And I feel betrayed by Obama and his administration. This doesn't equate to a Ron Paul vote for me, primarily because I'm a union member with a wife and children. (as well as all of his negative positions listed in this thread) But I am definitely listening and paying attention to the positions from my first paragraph that Ron Paul is addressing.
Obama really changed my world view for the worst. I think he has destroyed the "hope" and belief of an entire generation in politics and government. I personally don't believe anything Obama says anymore. If you remove what he says and just look at what he has done, it is frightening. I never dreamed my vote would result in the destruction of my privacy, due process or even my life.
I don't believe in Republicans, Democrats or candidates anymore. I only believe in positions and policies.
I don't care if Ron Paul takes votes away from Romney or Obama. I just "hope" he forces the Republocrat or Democrublican parties to face some of these important issues.
So, I guess I would add to your post title and say "Fuck Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Barrack Obama, Republicans and Democrats." And with that, I'm just venting.
Ron Paul has exposed the morally bankrupt underbelly of the the liberal/Democratic leadership in this country. As a progressive, it's embarrassing and deeply disturbing to me that Ron Paul is the one discussing and advocating these positions while the leaders on the left are silent.
