Latest from Puerto Rico

Just talked to family and they told me that FEMA is telling people that any funds provided by them for home repairs need to be spent at Home Depot- nowhere else. Also, they are setting up info desks inside the stores in order to "facilitate" things for people. Is this normal? Sounds kinda shady to me... Are the Home Depot folks Republican donors or something?

"Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus has endorsed Donald Trump for president, but Marcus is no longer the CEO or chairman of the home improvement chain."

From snopes.

Marcus did endorse trump... but he is no longer the CEO or Chairman. But he is a founder and probably still owns a lot of stock.

of Republican corruption. It's a shame these schemes are not being reported more frequently.

I certainly don't know what other home improvement/repair stores are in Puerto Rico, but requiring people to use the money at Home Depot could be a way of making sure the money is used for it's intended purpose as well as helping to make sure people aren't cheated by scammers and businesses.

"requiring people to use the money at Home Depot could be a way of making sure the money is used for it's intended purpose..."

Is there any direct precedence for this having been done, and on this large a scale to other American citizens in declared disaster areas?

If not, I see zero evidence suggesting this mechanism is intended for what you surmised.

Mostly Home Depot, Lowes, and Wallmart. The FEMA facilitators in these places have been normal practice for several years now. I think the partnerships maybe started post Katrina?
