"The House Freedom Caucus, the ultra-conservative group of 30-40 Republicans that pushed former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to resign and has often been the bane of current Speaker Paul Ryan's existence because of its take-no-prisoners attitude, may be completely neutered by the budget deal."

"In other words, there will be less for the House Freedom Caucus to do, less opportunity to do it and far fewer reasons for others to listen to anything it has to say. Even if it continues to exist, today might well be the day we point to as the moment when the HFC stopped being important and anyone cared about it."

(26,044 posts)...they're not needed, because 90% of their platform is held by a majority in the legislative and executive branches. Like it or not, we now live in a Freedom Caucus nation.

(11,787 posts)Why would they be neutered? I mean Republicans going back on their word is a daily occurrence. These people have no shame whatsoever.
The only way they're neutered is if FOX and am radio turn on them. The base will vote as their told.

(18,187 posts)No more plum committee assignments...no more holding the entire House hostage to their ridiculous demands and extremist ideology...no more bamboozling their constituents and voters with tales of their power and efficacy...no more open invitations to mainstream their message on "the shows".

(844 posts)That the Freedom Caucus is 90% about holding the government up with their threats about the budget. If a deal passes it takes away their only tactic for getting what they want.
The point is taken though that the Rs have moved so far right since the tenure of these turds that tons of their extremist positions are now just normal everyday Republican policy
