There are good people out there.

I dropped my bike and was trapped underneath it until motorists stopped and picked it up off of me. If they had checked out my political leanings they might not have as I live in a very red state. No one asked and I wasn't in a position to discuss politics.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that they as well as us might do the right thing from time to time. Events often predispose actions.

When get gets to shove, I think that people behave honorably. Forget the bias and hatred that often permeates the daily discourse of the 24/7 news channels. We're all in the same game.

when a human being is in pain, suffering, or in danger.

You made no mention of the severity of your injuries, so I hope that you are okay and recovering well.

I understood the humor in your post and no offense was taken.

After all the hassle that I get on the blogs of a small RW newspaper it is nice to be among friends at DU.

From bending in ways they aren't intended to bend. Otherwise, pretty much unscathed thanks to protective gear.

Hope you heal soon.

I ride a 600# bike that is a beyotch to get up off the ground when she lays down. It trapped my foot which was really embarrassing.

"Politics are trivial and meaningless when a human being is in pain, suffering, or in danger."

More people die weekly from denial of medical care for preventable problems than happened on 9-11.

And that is all about politics. People don't give a shit if they can maintain the fiction that it doesn't affect them directly or infect their beautiful minds with disturbing sights. As long as it is happening to "others" they are fine with it.

Tribalism abounds in America.

It was fascinating to have someone let me borrow their tools, or have them mow my grass for free (riding lawn mower), while bashing Democrats or social policies or being outright racist. I couldn't really put a finger on it, it was a really peculiar experience. I never brought politics into the discussions, though.

I liked the free lawn mowing.

About the southern people I met was their incredibly good manners. And they instill that in their kids, too. Puts a lot of us Yankees. To shame.

About how in the very final analysis,
we indeed ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

Whether that is the point you were
intending to make may be another question.

I've gone from apolitical,

to 60s far-left hippy activist,

to 70s drop out, to 80s "evangelical Christian",

to 90s married with children,

to 2000 at the WTO in Seattle.

And funny thing,

all along the way as you say,

there were good "people" and "bad" people.

But were they really good or bad?

or just mirrors of happy and sad?

This is the question I'm sitting with at the moment.
