After President Donald Trump held a bipartisan meeting pushing for potential gun control solutions, he took heat from his conservative base — with many viewing the discussion as anti-Second Amendment — which resulted in a classic Kellyanne Conway spin during a Fox & Friends appearance this morning.

With conservative outlets, such as far-right Breitbart News, running headlines like, “Trump the Gun Grabber: Cedes Dems’ Wish List— Bump Stocks, Buying Age, ‘Assault Weapons,’ Background Checks” — and the NRA issuing a stern rebuke to the meeting — Conway assured viewers the president’s pow-wow with both sides of the aisle was actually “not about gun control.”

She said the following when pressed on the matter by Trump’s favorite morning Fox News hosts:

“The president has taken a leadership role from day one that we all learned about this terrible tragedy 15 days ago. He has had listening sessions with the affected families and also with public safety and education officials. Then, yesterday, with those who ultimately will put something on his desk — one would hope. The Congress — a bicameral, bipartisan meeting. This meeting was not about gun control. This meeting — let’s not forget — is about school safety.”
