(12,306 posts)Conor looked really good in the debate last night. Rick Saccone looked like a jerk--mean and petty.

(14,153 posts)American right wing media, and Russia have so poisoned the well, lowered the bar making seething hating morans out of what were once sensible, but conservative minded, folks. ie...The Brainwashing of My Dad. Where up is down, and down is up. Where maniacal RW shock jocks scream how the liberals are always angry, spitting into their mics with vile angry hatred. And listeners then go out and shout about the "angry liberals". Their strategy seems to be, attack anger with even greater anger, even if you have to make up shit to be angry about. Even if you have to eventually turn into a bonifide ASSHOLE. That being an ASSHOLE is better (more pro-American) than a liberal/Democrat/progressive.

(6,212 posts)you would think the ad and Lamb would appeal to everyone.

(6,369 posts)He'll get a ton of Democratic votes, and there are a lot of blue collar former Democrat voters there that swung Republican recently, but would be willing to vote Democrat again if the right candidate ran.

(6,369 posts)NYT did an article talking to voters in PA-18. One of them was a former steelworker and disillusioned Trump voter who said she was looking forward to voting for Lamb, and that the recent tariffs weren't going to change her vote.

(32,328 posts)She says there are Conor Lamb yard signs out all over the place. She hasn't seen any for Saccone. I'm in the district next to the 18th (I'm in Pittsburgh) and we see all the Lamb and Saccone TV ads that have been running constantly.
The difference between their TV ads is like night & day. The Saccone ads are all negative against - Nancy Pelosi! Except now they've got one ad that sounds like they're trying to swiftboat Lamb, but it's really lame. Not a single TV ad telling why anyone should vote for Saccone. Because they can't think of anything, I guess.
On the other hand Conor Lamb's ads have been positive, upbeat and inspiring, with him talking and appearing on camera. He's a nice-looking young man, former Marine, and serving as a prosecuting attorney in the Pittsburgh federal district attorney's office. He has a good record prosecuting against criminals, drug dealers and gun-running gangs. He comes from Pittsburgh Irish Catholic family of long-time Democratic party members and his creds are all good.
Even if I weren't a Democrat, I'd vote for this guy.

(15,499 posts)This glorification of the military since 9/11 (some of us saw it coming) is not conducive to uniting us. People in this country contribute in so many ways and we don't thank them for their service. Every day mothers and fathers get up early and go to work and take care of their families and teach their children values. People contribute in many, many ways. Let's stop glorifying the police, firefighters and military. I'm not saying they don't deserve it, but so do many others and we don't go around saying thank you to them on the streets.
About 7 years ago I witnessed a woman profusely thanking a guy in the waiting room of my veterinarian's office because he wore a WWII baseball hat. He seemed confused and embarrassed and never said anything to her, but the rest of us could tell he didn't like her making a big scene about it. For all she knew he could have just been wearing a hat. He could also have actually been a veteran but an asshole in his life. Who knows. It's ridiculous.
Also, it leaves out a lot of professions that are specifically female dominated such as teaching and nursing.

Very Democratic in nature, said succinctly and clearly. Nice.
I understand the Republicans are really worried about this race. If Lamb manages to pull a win, there will be tremors throughout the GOP. Even a neck-to-neck race is making the Republicans sweat.
