One of the parents of the recent FL shooting said it was more important than gun regulations. Since potential mass shooters will be kept out, why aren't we talking about those flimsy gun free school buses? They should be armored and fitted with bullet proof glass. What about the gun free zone between the bus and school door? Each student should be wearing full body armor and accompanied by an armed guard. People who live in gated communities have the right idea. Islands of safety. Barbed wire, mine fields, moats, castles all have worked in the past to make the world safer.

The poster I was responding to was just being ridiculous.

(5,523 posts)We will have a nation of prisons with the only gun free zones being gun shows where loaded weapons are not allowed.

(9,766 posts)they will never be completely gone. There are too many in circulation. And other guns kill too. Maybe not 15-30, but how many is too many?
So we just do nothing about beefing up school security? Is that one everyone is saying?

What specifically leads you to believe everyone is intimating nothing be done?

(5,523 posts)Best to be afraid and barricade ourselves behind lead lined doors and bullet proof glass. That's how people live in many countries already, so why not us? Go ahead and hardened the schools. It won't end there.

We are going to need a multipronged approach that addresses gun control, school security and mental health.

(5,523 posts)All my neighbors and many friends have rifles and hand guns. I have vouched for three friends to get pistol permits. I own 2 BB guns (yikes). I don't know one person who owns an assault rifle. I guess they're missing something. I believe in the phrase "well regulated militia" but I'm resigned to the fact that we're a nation of guns and there's no return ... period !
