The country is even more balkanized, pretty near all our forms of communicating information - including social media, has been discredited - our economy is being seriously compromised, and no one really knows who to trust.

I'd say that even if Putin didn't get his immediate wish list items checked off, he's basically brought this country to its knees, making the U.S. pretty much politically isolated on the world stage for a long enough time that he can set his empire up.

... be counter-productive to our goals at this point. Right now the White House is about as dysfunctional as it can be. The Meuller Investigation is gaining steam and Tump and his inner circle look about as guilty as they can look. Democrats are winning elections they shouldn’t be winning - and I believe Trump is galvanizing that resistance and resolve. His “Presidenting” style is a National embarrassment - Hell, a global embarrassment. He’s failing to accomplish much that can’t be walked back -or at least ameliorated - if congress flips in November.

If Pence takes over, not a single policy change will occur. But the heat will be taken off substantially. The Meuller probe will be neutered (Pence will fire Sessions and install a legitimate AG with an air of respectability, and the probe will be gradually suffocated and sent to the back burner). Pence will put a “lip service” investigation on the Russian attack, he’ll hire a “no drama” staff, and he’ll take the country in a theocratic direction which will piss off progressives but will not help us GOTV like Trump’s madness. It’s the gift that keeps on giving - at the polls anyway. Pence will seem tame and “republican as usual” by comparison. The appearance or normalcy will return.

I understand Trump has to go. But keeping up this insanity until at least the mid-terms is - as much as I hate to say it - probably a winning scenario for us. I’ve said before that the only thing worse than a dysfunctional republican administration is a functional republican administration. Jmtc.
