On edit: Nunberg is alleging that it isn't fair because they are only considering contempt against Republicans and not Democrats and refers to Clinton. Everyone on the Clinton campaign cooperated with the FBI in all respects (and there was no grand jury). The most egregious use of civil contempt for partisan reasons is when Starr jailed McDougal for 18 months when he couldn't force her to lie.
I had to look up contumacious.
con·tu·ma·cious /ˌkänt(y)o͝oˈmāSHəs/
adjective: contumacious
(especially of a defendant's behavior) stubbornly or willfully disobedient to authority.

Lawfare: It is an understatement to say that Sam Nunberg is playing with fire.
Nunberg, a longtime Trump adviser and former campaign aide who is on the outs with the president, went on a bizarre rampage of media appearances Monday afternoon in which he mocked Special Counsel Robert Mueller, declared his intention to not cooperate before the grand jury in the Russia investigation, and appeared to speculate wildly on President Trumps involvement, or lack thereof, in wrongdoing during the campaign
The point is that federal prosecutors have robust powers to deal with recalcitrant witnesses, and special prosecutors in high-stakes matters involving the president of the United States have particular incentives not to tolerate contumacious conduct on the part of witnesses they subpoena. Nunberg may think it would be funny if they arrested me. We suspect hell find it less so if and when they actually do.
. . .
McDougal spent 18 months in jail on the contempt chargesthe maximum allowed under the contempt statuteas the court sought to compel her testimony. But Starr wasnt done. Civil contempt is about coercion, not punishment. After her civil contempt detention was finished, he sought and received a grand jury indictment against McDougal for criminal contempt (criminal contempt is about punishment of the crime of contempt of court) and obstruction of justice as well.

(10,437 posts)You don't do a throw down at a federal prosecutor or ignore a grand jury subpoena...
its contempt of court, no trial, no hearing and off you go until you fucking cooperate. I hope Mueller finds the worse federal detention center he can to make an example of this asshole

(23,273 posts)She kept saying they were trying to get her to say something about Clinton she says wasn't true. Have to look that up.

(53,061 posts)statements that were not true and they wouldn't give her immunity.
She then advertised that she would rather go to jail than lie.
By the way she was found innocent on criminal contempt

(23,273 posts)I don't think Starr was so hell bent on destroying her, more like he was hell bent on destroying Clinton and was manipulating her to help him do it.
Me.
