I mean I know there was a shit ton of "wtf" to unpack from yesterday's meltdown but what stood out to me was how many times he referred to Roger Stone as "like a father" to him. Ok fair enough...that was pretty consistent and many people have mentors that serve as parental figures.
But then on Erin Burnett's show on CNN, she asked why he was so angry at trump...why did he keep saying that trump treated him badly...and he said that Trump was like a father to him
Then someone posted a video of when Nunberg was 5 and was with his father when he first met Trump (so he did have an actual father in his life at some point).
Good lord, all Mueller needs to do to get info from Sam is call him Chamo or Sport, throw a baseball around a few times and give him a pat on the back....he can be his new father figure.

(58,785 posts)He'd called Nunberg at his home after the interview, and family and friends were there trying to talk him through this. Other than that he didn't say what he and the elder Nunberg discussed, but he was there with his son.
I"m pretty sure mental problems, perhaps a personality disorder, are involved. Nunberg mentioned an antidepressant, but I haven't heard that those turn people manic, cause them to spend long hours seeking attention, prone to histrionics, or...

I did catch that from Ari when he was on O'Donnell...he seemed genuinely concerned for his well being and respectful of the private conversation he had with his father. I watched Nunberg on Ari's show and you could sense the mood shift from interview to intervention.
The snarky side of me that is so fed up with trump and his lot of charlatans started off enjoying the meltdown, but then that stupid progressive compassion kicked in...listening to him yet again say how someone else was like a father to him (this time trump) and how he had been hurt by his words. I've read other reports about how trump did his usual name calling and yelling at him - he just leaves people broken...just ick.

(3,702 posts)Hard to tell online (and I've had no sleep...kitty had zooms hourly and sounded like herds of buffalo trampling above me) but in all seriousness you are correct.
Many studies on the difference between conservatives and progressives point out how conservatives are drawn to authority, rigid patriarchal hierarchies, etc. There is such a toxic masculinity centered around being "manly men" who don't show affection or emotions...you can see how it can poison people into self loathing and looking for acceptance from father figures.

(58,785 posts)in general some belief in, and need for, authority to establish security is part of the makeup of a majority. It's a fascinating, and appalling, topic.
The studies, though, are on conservatives and liberals. I mention that only because the concept that organizations and government can and should be used to advance the wellbeing of society is far too important and central to western liberal democracies to let it be turned into a label owned by one group.
Of course virtually all liberals are progressives, but not entirely vice versa. Before they became drenched in anti-government Kool-Aid, many moderate conservatives believed in and supported progressive solutions to problems too big for individuals. And they still do to a large degree, even if they won't admit agreeing at this point. The support of enough progressive conservatives to create majorities was critical to what we achieved in the last century and will be in this one. We need every one of them.

(22,077 posts)going bonkers as they well should be, seeing what crap they inflicted on the country. I'll never ever forgive the republicans who allowed this (too cowardly to not let tRUMP take over their ticket (should have let tRUMP run on his own, and not as a republican), or those who supported tRUMP. Forevermore, if your name is associated with tRUMP in any way, you will be forever shunned and ignored.
