Financial institutions are headquartered there. It's no surprise the senators from these states would vote to.protect them, thanks to the citizen United ruling which pretty much legalized bribing of politicians.

Many local and regional banks sprung up here since the Great Recession. Regions is also based in Birmingham. Could be why Doug Jones went along with it.
