Save The Vote

We need large scale and immediate voting reform in this country.

From gerrymandered districts to voting day the most important duty we have as citizens is broken.

We need a federal law, specific standards, of how voting districts are shaped and take that duty out of partisan hands (of either political party). Also set standards for the number of polling stations per thousand people in a district so that people don’t have to travel to far or wait in lines for hours to vote (at a minimum or go to voting by mail or voting and dropping ballots in special SoS boxes like we do here in Washington)

We need to get the absolute gross amount of money out of the campaign system. We are the only nation on Earth that takes this long and spends this much money to get elected to public office.
Not to mention that once elected they spend as much or more time securing campaign funding for their next election as they do for the job they were actually elected to do! It not small-“d” democratic and leaves all but the very wealthy unable to aspire to public office. A federal law that sets specific standards that abolishes PACs and SuperPACs and sets donations limited for individuals to a specific amount in the primary phase and then each political party’s official candidate for federal office gets a fixed amount for advertising that they cannot exceed.

Next make midterm and presidential election days national holidays so that people don’t have to decide between work and voting. If every couple of years is to inconsistent than make every first Tuesday in November Election Day holiday to celebrate our democracy. It’s the least we could do.

Make national voter registration automatic and enshrine into federal law a national standard for identification or no identification at all but set a standard that is fair (accept student IDs for example and not gun permits)

Ennurmerate these items into the the Voting Rights Act and restore it to its complete and original intent: to ensure everyone’s voice is heard and that voting is considered a sacred and important duty of every citizen.

We are meeting later this month to plan voter protection efforts for the general. The GOP is the party of voter suppression and the GOP will do its best to steal the mid terms
