General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt seems that the gun debate right now is centered on school safety.
Arming teachers, identifying troubled students, raising age limits, etc. would have had no effect at all on the shootings in Sulphur Springs, Orlando, Las Vegas and numerous other mass shootings.
Protecting school children is essential, but we need to address the wider picture if we hope to ever reduce the number of shootings in our society.
We have to admit that the common denominator in most of these mass murders is easy access to high powered, military style weapons. Until these are removed from the picture, we can count on mourning more dead Americans in the future.

(3,208 posts)but it seems to me the "drug war" certainly plays a big factor in guns in the streets. I guess we aren't going anywhere on that because tRump would like to execute drug dealers, which puts them in more danger and creates a situation where "protection" is something they think they will need more of, which means more guns in the streets.
Like I said, I learned most of this from TV, but it sure seemed to me if people did not have to worry about "snitches" or competition, the drug trade would not be as violent. Making drugs illegal has not stopped everyone from taking drugs: drugs can just as easily be abused with legal drugs, as we can see very clearly right now.
