Went to a Reunion and I tried to steer away from politics to make it easier to reach across the decades back to a time when we had more in common. One of the vicious Trump supporters during the election, appeared sheepish.
"But, doesn't he make you laugh? Like that "Little Rocket man comment?"
No. I'm not amused, not even a little bit. He is the president of the United States.
"Well, I like that he's not a politician. He's there to drain the swamp."
It's a problem if he doesn't understand the process well enough to avoid breaking the law.
"OH, if he's broken the law, that's a deal breaker."
Well, we're going to find out, and very soon.
It always surprised me how many DoD employees I encounter that are hard, hard right.

(82,849 posts)But I'm glad it's worked out so well for your Trump-supporting friend. Sure, the country's going to hell in a handbasket, our foreign policy is being dictated to us by the Kremlin, our allies can't trust us, and oppressed people across the globe have learned that those words on the Statue of Liberty are just so much empty verbiage. But your friend got a good laugh from a childish taunt, so everything's jake.

Trump is a clown, 24/7, the man is a tentshow attraction, a cheap lounge act, a one man band on a street corner in Hollywood, but he has never been able to divest himself of his need for applause and adoration to put the interests of the country ahead of his own ego.

Evidently without any thought whatsoever what kind of "change" they were voting for! Hillary would have been a "change" too!

They certainly can't mean 'clean up the corruption' unless they have completely gone into the alternative fact universe.

(3,335 posts)27 years in Contracting, I never noticed any politicing until the Clinton administration. As a matter of fact, during my orientation with the military and DoD we were always told to leave our politics at the door. From the beginning of his administration, people in my office began posting nasty comic strip posts about the Clintons on the official office bulletin board and no one complained until I did, and it took a while before I did. But the comments and the cartoons just got more vicious and raunchy and were being aimed at both Clintons. There were even Chelsea jokes direct at a child. There were other Dems besides myself, but when I commented about the postings, they just laughed it off. The military and DoD had always been about respect of the chain of command. When I complained and nothing was said publicly about it, (even though my Commander had said he would address it), it was an eye opener. Every office building I've ever worked in during my time with the military, and my time with DoD, had pictures aligning the walls of our entire chain of command including the president. We also always had an office bulletin board. I never saw anything disparaging of any member of our chain of command including our president until Bill Clinton.
I left in 2015 before Trump, due to developing a heart condition. Actually, I had the heart condition since birth, but an episode revealed it. My job involved a lot of travel which I had enjoyed at the time, but after heart surgery, I was left me with anxiety attacks which prevented me from staying in hotels in unfamiliar cities. I just can't imagine working for the federal government under Trump. Federal workers take an oath of office and a pledge to uphold and protect the Constitution, so help me God. Duty, Honor, and Integrity were words drilled into me from the beginning. I don't think I could work for the federal government or the military as long as the Commander-in-Chief lies freely, is obviously unqualified and so unprepared for the office he holds and the lives he's responsibility for, and is devoid of any character and integrity. The GOP Congress which enables him, and covers up for his unbridled reverence and devotion to Putin, should be ashamed of themselves.
