Senate Dem: Colleagues 'actively reconsidering' support for Pompeo

BY LUIS SANCHEZ - 03/13/18 03:52 PM EDT

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said Tuesday that some of his colleagues are rethinking their support for CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who has been picked by President Trump to be the next secretary of State.

“I think there are a number of us who voted for him last time who are actively reconsidering based on his service in the administration,” Schatz told The Washington Post. “A lot of us gave him the benefit of the doubt. We were told he was going to handle everything on the level and be nonpolitical,” the Hawaii Democrat added. “And it’s not clear that that’s his record at the CIA.”

Fourteen Democrats supported Pompeo when the Senate voted to approve his nomination to run the CIA in early 2017.

The nomination process for Pompeo could be drawn out, however, according to the Post, which cited leaders of both parties.

The predicted Democratic opposition — on top of the current backlog of nominations in the Senate — could leave the State Department without a leader while the U.S. is preparing to negotiate with North Korea and make changes to the Iran nuclear deal, among other pressing international concerns, the newspaper noted.

1. Why, oh why, do the Dems insist on giving Republicans the benefit of the doubt.

It's never paid off, that I'm aware of. It only serves the purpose of screwing us over. There are no do-overs in this shit - especially with this group of losers.

I believe it was Chris Hayes. He said he was recently clearing out old text messages and emails on his phone to make room.
He came across old texts/notes to other R members of the committee. "Oh I read those now and wonder, how could I be so naive?

INDEED SIR. WAKE THE FUCK UP WE ARE ALL ABOUT TO DIE.

You've had a goddam year to evaluate this dumpster fire of an administration. I'll grudgingly concede that taking the high road and giving this bandit rabble the benefit of the doubt early on was marginally all right, tactically speaking. But each and every doubt, misgiving, and clanging red alert klaxon has been justified to the nth degree by these fuckers.

No more benefits of any doubts. No more "let the president pick his staff." No more consent when the president doesn't listen to or solicit any advice. Stop this nonsense. The minority in the Senate has the power to stop everything. USE IT! This crumbling of our country has gone on long enough.

If Trump isn't stopped, the US govt will be a satellite office of the Kremlin.

The longer it goes on the more we disappear.

I trust Mueller's team completely. But there just seems to be a shift towards greater urgency this week alone.

hurry up, please!
