(41,956 posts)Hes old, I know, but hes got folksiness, charisma, hes plain spoken, and that wrapping is around a smart, generous, humane, experienced, well respected man who knows what its like to serve and to lose a kid who served.
Id vote for him in a heartbeat.

(46,166 posts)A while back I may not have felt this way. But someone who is smart, knows the score, understands Washington and policy without the mania is what we need after the age of tRump. I'd vote for Biden in the Primaries.

(16,950 posts)knows how government operates and is not divisive. By divisive, I don't mean totally baggage free, I mean someone who looks at the big picture and tries to heal and not someone who exploits and conjures up weaknesses to attack others with.

(1,777 posts)He has "authenticity," a non-shrill voice, and Real American genitalia. And I wonder how many "progressives" who were all over Hillary because of the Crime Bill will embrace Biden, who wrote it?
I'd vote for him, of course. Hell, even Anita Hill probably would -- no other choice. And hey, what's another ember in the slow-burning rage-fire?

(14,249 posts)She didn't even vote for it, but the men who voted for it (including the one who wrote it) are seen as progressive heroes and given a complete pass.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)But the double standard is really pissing me off.
As you said, the record that progressives absolutely trashed Hillary over gets a big "meh - because Biden is so strong and calm" from the same people. And while they have never forgiven Hillary for every single real and imagined misstep ("she's FLAWED, you know" , all is forgiven about the Anita Hill debacle.
The idea that Biden should be the one because he may connect with Chris Matthews' "real Americans" - the white working class - totally ignores that he's not universally revered by black and brown folk, many of whom remain deeply troubled by his abysmal record on desegregation, which he's never explained or apologized for. They kept quiet about it when he was Obama's VP, but that doesn't mean we've forgotten it or that it won't undercut enthusiasm for him in the black community.
And let's not forget his tendency to say really stupid things.

(16,984 posts)After 2016 we almost went deaf and blind from the calls for and posts from pundits and others demanding that Hillary Clinton don sackcloth and ashes or, better yet, simply withdraw to a cloistered life. And all the voters who backed her were treated as though they simply didn't exist.
But Joe Biden - that's a horse of a different gender ... I mean color ... or something. But it's different.

(5,275 posts)But he is just too old and we need new blood, new names, not retreads. We have several possible strong candidates a generation or more younger.
JFK said in his Inaugural speech in 1961 that it was time for the torch to be passed to a new generation. Now is a similar time IMHO.

(14,249 posts)or she lost a presidential race or her record was too problematic or something something, blah blah blah.
This reminds me of something pundits repeatedly said whenever President Obama had a Supreme Court pick: "So, do you think the president will try to go for diversity or competence?" In other words, will he lower standards and select a woman or minority or not take any chances go with a tried and true white man, who we know will automatically be qualified?
Being a white man sure has its privileges, doesn't it?

(41,113 posts)It's his recognition, seniority and electability, not the old white guy stuff, that's worth considering just now IMO.

(14,249 posts)while Hillary's negatives were treated as dealbreakers.
This is not to be critical of you, but I'm using your comment as an example of what I'm talking about -
You said, "Joe's negatives and issues I'm aware of for sure ... but it's his recognition, seniority and electability that's worth considering."
This is something we rarely heard people say about Hillary. For her, it was flipped:
"Yes, she has recognition, seniority, but her negatives are really going to be a problem that could affect her electability."
In addition, her recognition and seniority were also treated as negatives - she was too establishment, was around too long - while those are treated as attributes for Biden (and other men).

(41,113 posts)It's enough to just crawl up, but we can't. And we know they'll attack Joe or any Dem., and employ any corrupt means again to try to defeat Dems. if things don't change, like a big Blue Wave Backlash!
