Boeing's 4.4% tumble responsible for more than a third of Dow's 300 point slump in afternoon trade

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded firmly lower on Wednesday afternoon, amid a broad downturn in U.S. equities led by sharp fall in industrial giant Boeing Co. BA, -3.84% Shares of the Dow component were cutting more than 100 points from the blue-chip benchmark, which was down 4.6% or $15.47. Most recently, the Dow DJIA, -1.00% was off 312 points, or 1.3%, at 24,685. A $1 move in any one of the Dow's 30 components equates to a 6.89-point swing in the average. Boeing's shares BA, -3.84% by dint of a $322 price, have been the most influential among the price-weighted Dow's components. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index [: SPX] was down 0.6% at 2,747, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.20% was down 0.5% at 7,476. - Marketwatch
