That's the argument on twitter right now.
Not sure what response to do, to that tweet.

(5,969 posts)But it's not surprising that it happens in a debate that is dominated by deflections from one side ("Define bs x term...", "More people die in car accidents" ).
Guns don't kill, people do....so presumably, they don't need guns for self defense or hunting as guns don't do the killing. I don't get it how some can be proud in presenting their flawed logic in public.

(14,249 posts)1. Youre right. And since spelling mistakes dont kill or even hurt anyone, we just laugh at the boo boo and move on. But if someone starts stabbing people in the eye with the pencil, we take the pencil away from them. And if, after awhile, we notice that a whole lot of people are gouging peoples eyes out with pencils, we start making sure that people can be trusted with a pencil before letting them have one.
2. Maybe you should direct this to one of the Sandy Hook parents and see what they think about comparing their babies being ripped to shreds by automatic weapon fire with a word being spelled wrong.

(951 posts)One is a small mistake with usually very little consequence, usually accidentally done out of ignorance.
The other is the ultimate consequence, usually intentionally done out of malice and hate.
Very easy to confuse the two

(13,869 posts)but a person with a pencil that is capable of many many mistakes quickly, would surely cause a lot of damage.

(37,748 posts)I remember when my typo resulted in the deaths of 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Also, I read daily about pencils accidentally discharging its lead points into the backs, necks and faces of high school students when dropped. Or merely carried. Or just sitting there...
Damn that "I before E" progressive spelling!!!! It's killing innocent Americans!!!

(3,608 posts)FACILITATES the misspelling. So the pencil doesn't misspell the words just like the guns don't kill the people....these objects just make it easier for the person to do what they wanna do. So fuck off Deplorables.

(9,670 posts)Without a pencil, the word is not misspelled. At that point, it's simply an idea in one's conscious mind.
No pencil, no misspelling.
