General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe won a huge race and there is an immediate increase in attacks on Democrats and even DU members.
Its extremely transparent.
Keep up the good fight. Dont be distracted. So much of the pessimistic mindset is transitioning to optimism. Dont let these ratfuckers dilute your optimism.
If they are providing cover for Republicans, recognize it and move on. If they have Clinton Derangement Syndrome, move on. If they call you a racist for simply criticizing an African American, move on. If they attack progressive leadership using empty slogans void of thought, move on.
They are transparent, just as almost every single poster here is a transparent progressive. Dont let the few acting in bad faith do anything to your optimism.
The increase in ratfucking since yesterday morning is clear. Recognize it and them. Your minds are too beautiful to waste.

FakeNoose
(32,328 posts)... by giving "safe" replies on old threads that nobody is paying attention to. It still counts towards their number of posts. They jump in and start trolling when their number is up over 100 or so. I can't point to specifics because I don't know any, but occasionally I see a response on something I posted over a month ago. Doesn't seem to be pertinent either, just chiming in on a different topic. Makes me wonder...
Also it makes we wonder how some DU members have only a few posts and nothing in their journal, but they've been a member since 2004? Huh? Is there a way to fake your start date or does the members' archive have incorrect dates? It doesn't mean the person is a troll, but it sure looks suspicious.
Politicub
(12,163 posts)Which is great, if new posters are here to engage. I don't call people out for number of posts. And I don't engage with obvious trolling.
The thing with the Russia investigation is that it opened a lot of people's eyes to the degree that trolls infiltrate social media and message boards. It was happening on DU during the primaries, and drove many of us long time posters away for that awful period. I do believe there was a large population of people legitimately for and against Bernie and Hillary. But the infighting did none of us any good.
DU becomes pleasant again until a primary. Then the trolls start to come out before and after to try and dust up tired arguments or spread misinformation. It is so transparent. I guess it is because they go to the same training classes.
Now we are smarter about it. The new jury system works better than the old one. And DU has been the best it has been in a long time.
I hope the GOP keeps lying to itself, too. Who cares if they're spreading the narrative amongst themselves that Lamb was a crypto republican. He clearly isn't. But if that's what they want to believe, then they can "carry on, governor." Maybe it will earn more dem votes because Trump must speak to them in code -- he bashes the crypto republican before the primary and then says he was a republican all along. It makes no sense, but common sense isn't a virtue in the GOP.

(32,328 posts)Seriously I don't think DU is any different in that regard. Maybe the word I should use is "tact" but you get my meaning.
Most of us have never met face-to-face but we should treat DU members with the same courtesy as our daily contacts. Doesn't that seem like the right behavior? If we can't be courteous then we shouldn't be on DU.
Maybe there needs to be tutorial to introduce this concept to new members. Unfortunately some people make attempts at humor that fall flat, or it's misunderstood. Sometimes people sound hostile, but they don't realize that's how they sound. I'm guessing that posting courtesy is not a thing that's taught or mentioned on other blogs.

IronLionZion
(45,250 posts)that has been going on since the beginning of the site. Some DUers like to lose and saw some derived a perverted pleasure from our electoral shellacking in 2010 that saw a lot of red state moderates replaced by tea party extremists. The purity purge crowd is easily trolled by Russians and RWers and others who like to divide us against each other.
Conor Lamb won a district that didn't even have a Dem running for that seat in recent elections. Dems had major upset victories in Virginia and Alabama recently. That concerns a certain type of person. It shouldn't bother us Democrats. We should be motivated and united on this.
"Winning too much"?
"like to lose"?
"derive a perverted pleasure"?
These are strange, non-specific ad hominems directed at a nebulous group of individuals on this forum.
I realize you can't be more specific about "some DUers" without possibly getting alerted, but ...
Maybe think about what this post itself contributes to DU decorum?
IronLionZion
(45,250 posts)others want to shrink our map down to a few liberal bubbles like Brooklyn and San Francisco. I was accused of being a Trump supporter earlier this week. DUers by our nature are "a nebulous group of individuals on this forum".
My point is that the people here who:
don't want us to win
want us to lose
cheer when Dems lose
have mostly negative things to say about any Dem politician and little or no positive things to say
might not be who they say they are. Some of them might just need some anti-depressents, maybe some confidence building workshops, or something. But others are definitely trolling us. I stay within DU rules and use the alert system instead of calling out individual members.
Wounded Bear
(58,436 posts)He may be a bit conservative compared to some, but I don't doubt that he is a Dem.
The RW is trying to justify shit that ain't true to bolster their base. From what I hear, Lamb ran a pretty good campaign, that followed a lot of good basic principles in visiting people on the street and running on local issues.
We definitely need to maintain focus and keep the eye on the prize.

Go to the real rightwing sites and those guys are saying that they are going to lose the House for sure and gaming out how that would effect TRUMP AND THE GOP AGENDA!
I think this is all very good for us provided we don't get distracted and keep up the momentum and build on it
WE ARE WINNING1
Caliman73
(11,690 posts)Democrats are typically diverse in their views, which has been the historic reason why we can be so difficult to organize. Many of us are more conservative in some aspects and more liberal on others. We do nuance, while Republicans as a party, do not.
It is our strength and weakness. But you are right. We need to focus on getting the best possible candidates into positions and moving forward from there. Today's Joe Manchin may be next cycle's Julian Castro, or Mark Pocan one day. Local issues are important. That is what brings people out to vote. What works for Lamb's district in Western Pennsylvania, would likely not work in my district in the Monterey Bay area of California.
The major difference between Democrats and Republicans is who government works for. Democrats want government to work for the average citizen. Republicans want government to protect the interests of the wealthiest people.

(36,814 posts)Trump was exactly backwards in his statement. Wingnut dipshits are going to get tired of losing. Every time they open their mouth they expose themselves as a loser. While the slack-jawed rubes are slow to learn, eventually they will figure this out and forever wallow in their shame.
