But it's not clear how much an improvisational president can be scripted before a possible meeting with special counsel Robert Mueller.

President Donald Trumps lawyers are gaming out possible questions and answers for a potential interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, according to two people familiar with the strategy.
The preparations reflect an understanding that negotiations with the lead Russia investigator, which have been ongoing since January, will eventually culminate in a sit-down meeting between Mueller with the president. One source said the discussions about the terms of a possible interview may soon even reach a conclusion.
I dont think its months and months out. I dont think its in a week, said the person familiar with the negotiations. But I think its moving toward closure.
But even given the high stakes of a potential meeting with Mueller, Trumps lawyers face a challenge in prepping a president who resists following scripts and who has deep trust in his own improvisational instincts.

(1,896 posts)Trump's lawyers have an ethical responsibility not to allow him to testify falsely. It's also a criminal act to suborn perjury. But Trump lives in an ethics free zone so it shouldn't matter much.
Counsel's duty of loyalty to, and advocacy of, the defendant's cause is limited to legitimate, lawful conduct compatible with the very nature of a trial as a search for truth. Although counsel must take all reasonable lawful means to attain his client's objectives, counsel is precluded from taking steps or in any way assisting the client in presenting false evidence or otherwise violating the law. Moreover, accepted norms require that a lawyer disclose his client's perjury and frauds upon the court.
