When I originally became invested in politics, Barbara Boxer was my inspiration.
My mother was my catalyst and Boxer was one of the names she always brought up as someone to watch and learn from.
Much of my early respect and admiration for Boxer was based on image. She was an unapologetic fighter. Boxer put forward great compassion yet showed unwavering fight in the face of adversity. She taught me a lot about the entrenched patriarchy, systemic oppression, and that there should be no acceptance of it. Things I needed to know and understand on a level deeper than just face value. She inspired me to read and learn more. She inspired me to never back down. She inspired me to stay involved. She inspired me to neither hedge or relent in conversations with respect to a woman's right to choose.
"Even if I have to stand alone, I will not be afraid to stand alone. I'm going to fight for you. I'm going to fight for what's right. I'm going to fight to hold people accountable" Boxer
My topic line is with respect to elected officials. My mother was my inspiration.
