I just found myself agreeing with something Bill Kristol said.

I think Sessions MIGHT have fired McCabe in an effort to protect his own job and by extension Mueller's job.

That doesn't excuse the firing, but it's possible that's what Sessions was thinking.

Kristol also said that the GOP leaders must now step up and protect Mueller and his investigation.

then someone would have replaced Sessions who could have fired Mueller or reined him in. Instead, Rosenstein has been supervising Mueller.

I think it's not impossible that Sessions is a cooperating witness. . . . hopefully we'll find out eventually.

He knows he broke the law and his only way out is a deal with Mueller.

I think that is exactly what's happening. If Trump gets word of it, he'll probably fire Sessions, too.

8. I agree with Kristol too, that Trump would have been inclined to fire Sessions

claiming that Sessions went against recommendation of Inspector General.

Firing McCabe undoubtedly is giving Trump a vindictive thrill, whereas Sessions not firing him would have made Sessions a target for Trump's vindictive rage.

The two lawyers on the panel felt strongly that it would be wrong to game the situation like that. On the other hand, Sessions might know how the recently unhinged Drumpf has been talking and acting after Mueller subpoened Drumpf's records. Sessions may have been sure that not firing McCabe would have led to his own firing and ultimately the firing of Mueller. There may be a case for an "act of patriotism."

Didn't Sessions dine with Rosenstein and someone else a week ago when something similar came up? I think he was trying to send a message to the fucking moron.

Scoop: Besieged Sessions dines with Rosenstein in show of solidarity

Damn, forgot all about that!!

Also, at some point way before that, Sessions was at some public gathering and said realllly nice things about Rosenstein and (Rachel) Brand...that was kinda strange, too - in a good way...hopefully

to forestall Trump firing Mueller.

If Sessions doesn't fire McCabe then Trump fires all of them using the Inspector General's report to show that an Obama appointed official stated that he should be fired but they didn't do it because they are all protecting each other and Sessions has been sucked into it.

I think Kristol is right on this one.
