CHICAGO Congressman Dan Lipinski was no friend to President Barack Obama when his fellow Chicago Democrat occupied the White House.
On Thursday, Lipinski got his comeuppance.
A collection of former Obama aides and supporters banded together to deliver some Chicago-style payback, just days before the embattled congressman faces a tough Democratic primary challenge that could end his career.
****************
In fact, Obama loyalists were so steamed that 10 former aides and volunteers stood in Axelrods old offices for the Thursday news conference the very place they said Michelle and Barack Obama made their decision to launch a 2008 lpresidential bid.

(297,026 posts)wrong guy to bogart as a "leader".
Turns out on that alone.. Marie Newman is the leader!
Still no clue.. why he's in the Democratic column?

(5,801 posts)And no way was a Republican going to win that district. Especially one whose family were all involved in Dem politics.
Fortunately, its not likely to turn red anytime soon, so I hope he gets primaried out.

(297,026 posts)dad was a real Dem?
MrsCoffee
(5,801 posts)He won many terms including the nasty primary against his friend after his district was merged with another. I dont know much about them to be honest. Just heard that he convinced the Dem party to let his son replace him on the ballot. No idea why these guys run or get elected as Democrats.

(297,026 posts)insight than I had.
Be just desserts if Marie Newman won!
Lipinski wouldn't endorse President Obama for 2nd term.. lol Who the hell did he want? hmmm?

(92,106 posts)this district, and I suspect she believes doing this she will keep Lipinski from changing party affiliation, with the idea that we need as many Democrats we can get in the House in order to have a chance at the majority.
However, based on the latest poll numbers, Pelosi may have miscalculated badly, and whether Newman, the other Democratic candidate opposing Lapinski wins the nomination or not, I predict this will hurt Pelosi chances to become the minority or majority leader in the House after the election.
As far as political calculus, Pelosi would have been better off if she didn't endorse anyone.
Dan Lipinski, is a seven-term incumbent who is a staunch opponent of abortion rights, refuses to back a $15 minimum wage and has voted against LGBT rights, the DREAM Act and the ACA.
It was an extremely reckless and stupid move on Pelosi's part. There was absolutely no upside to this for her or the Democratic party

Once they are in they can vote along Republican lines.

(92,106 posts)This time could different. Newman, his Democratic opponent is running neck and neck in the polls, and has a very good chance of winning.

(54,325 posts)She can direct massive support to Newman if she wins the primary (endorsement is null and void if Lipinski loses the primary), and not bother with Lipinski if he wins, saying, "Hey, I endorsed you and your seat is safe, what's your problem?"
