University education makes students more agreeable, conscientiousness

A new study indicates that university education has a dramatically positive effect on the development of non-cognitive skills like conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness, in addition to the expected intellectual benefits. The paper also shows that the impact of education on these skills is even more dramatic for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Haven't you read the GOP's PR or listened to Fox News?

Universities are a cauldron of toxic ideology, poisoning young American minds. Particularly their Liberal Arts programs that are a waste of time and money. Who needs courses in the Humanities: literature, music, art, theater, etc., the very disciplines that promote and explore the dreaded ideas of humanism and empathy that's so badly tainting the country.

USA, USA, USA.

Surely you recall the Glenn Beck, purveyor of alternate histories, expound on the wickedness of humanism, how empathy in and of itself was the most dangerous word in the dictionary. What is a good, Libertarian, social Darwinist to do?

Yes, of course, higher education has a positive effect and affect on those willing to pursue it and open their minds to the grandeur of learning. The university experience is a jumpstart, an introduction to a lifetime of learning, reading, thinking.

For the willing that is. For the unwilling?

They live in darkness by their own hand and closed minds.

I should add that open-minded individuals can explore and self-educate themselves without going to university. Public libraries hold all the materials they would need. But those free-spirited individuals are far and few between these days.
