My nerves are a little rattled by the McCabe firing.

To this point I have recognized this whole shit show as just chaotic. A bunch of people trying to figure out what the hell they are doing without any direction or leadership. Mostly unqualified alpha males with big egos.

It’s all a bit horrifying, and I’m not minimizing what has happened, but the McCabe firing is different. That’s a big statement considering we are damn near rudderless at the State Dept as well as numerous other areas. I could still write all of that off as gross incompetence from the top down.

McCabe is an unnecessary move in most all circumstances. Even Trump wouldn’t take this kind of hit for personal reasons. I have to believe Trump understands how bad the repercussions for this move will be and has determined the alternative to be worse.

That line of thought also leads me to believe something most of you already know and have been talking about, this is most likely the first in a series of coordinated firings. If correct, and Trump believes the fallout from the McCabe firing is worth the alternative, then he can’t be done. The fallout from this sequence of events is going to be huge.

Discord is being promoted within different agencies and departments. Attacking the FBI in this manner is going to have lasting consequences. It’s forcing people who are passionate about not politicizing the FBI to come out and speak up for their colleagues and harshly against the president. People well respected in all circles. This occurred after Comey was fired but not at the level we are seeing now. Brennan was blistering. This is just the beginning.

I’m a bit rattled understanding that all of this means the guy is guilty of some serious crimes. I thought before today that he was looking at obstruction(nothing would have happened) and years worth of the State of New York up his ass when he is out of office. I started having doubts with the Republican memo fiasco but the McCabe firing seals the deal for me.

I think a bit much might be being made about McCabes pension. Urgency might have been the only catalyst on Trumps part. The pension just a part of the distraction. Look at his tweets. Pure Trump. “This mans bad so I made him pay.” It’s the only group Trump propaganda still works on. Those who love someone else paying a price over all else.

Trump understands how bad this is going to be for him. He made the move out of necessity. He is guilty of some serious shit.

I just don’t get it. I have republicans in my life that swear McCabe is dirty. They really believe it.

all closing in and this is trump when he knows it..

But, I think he had sessions do it RIGHT NOW so he could punish McCabe.. rubbing it in. As has been noted.. the monster is all about revenge.

to the FOX/ Trump tweets/right wing version of reality. The fact that it was recommended by the non partisan Inspector General of the Justice Department was an unusual opportunity to take down one of the people Comey spoke to. Remember before Comey was fired, there was the memo suggesting it was because of the way he handled the Clinton email investigation.

McCabe was already going to resign on Sunday. He was fired about 26 or 27 hours before that. Two things change. One is that he may well not get his pension which he earned by working 21 years. The other is the story that he did something wrong -- something we still do not completely know.

For Trump, this and the fake reason for firing Comey are part of his "proof" that all of the investigations are finding nothing (pay no attention to the indictments and the guilty pleas) and they are witch hunts. His other attacks are on the FISA warrant for Carter Page and - like Nunes - Trump argues that the Obama administration used lies paid for by Clinton (Steele Dossier) to spy on an innocent American. (Pay no attention to the fact that when they followed Carter, they had much earlier cause to do so .. and he acted suspiciously. Forget that Australia told the US about Pappadopolis. Forget that Manafort has so many serious charges against him that he could spend the rest of his life in jail. Forget the guilty pleas. Forget Flynn ...)

I lived through the Nixon impeachment and two things were very different. One, most people heard close to the same TV News. The news portion of major papers were pretty consistent - even if the opinion page differed. The second difference was that the parties were less polarized and when facts showed that Nixon really did obstruct justice with his coverup, many Congress people and Senators told him they would vote against him. (It is also true we controlled both Houses.) Compare that to the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee.

The reason it unnerved me is that it was completely related to strengthening the beliefs of the Trump people that their narrative is correct .. and every thing we believe true is the "fake news". (Seriously, would you ever have believed that the Republican party would label the top two people (at one time) in the FBI as corrupt? ) We are clearly entering uncharted territory.

I think your point is spot on in that Trump made this move because he knows that the alternative was worse. He knows the depth of this and he is using this opportunity to deflect and build up his messaging with his base. The fact that a whole segment of this country is buying into Trump’s version of reality is truly scary. The fact that elected GOP officials are unphased by this is unsettling and frightening. It is truly, as you say, uncharted territory.

A moment that will live in text books as long as the US exists and beyond.
It could well be a turning point when we look back on it in future years.
