BY JOE CONCHA - 03/20/18 10:18 AM EDT
Liberal documentarian Michael Moore slammed heavy "corporate media" coverage devoted to "Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia" and adult-film actress Stormy Daniels on Monday, calling the stories shiny keys to distract us."
The commentary from the "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11" director came during a livestreamed town hall event featuring Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in Washington on Monday night.
The three prominent progressives lamented the lack of national media coverage around a recent teachers strike in West Virginia that resulted in a 5 percent pay increase, which Moore characterized as bringing "down the states apparatus" and "an amazing victory" for labor in a red state.
"Bernie, I didnt see hardly anything in the corporate media about this, on any of the networks, even some of the networks that we watch were you know Russia, turn the channel, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, the Oscar-winning director said. Im not saying thats not important.

(30,481 posts)He is also a wee bit disconnected from reality.
Russia sells. A porn star with a questionable non disclosure agreement fucking the President sells. Talking about a teacher walk-out in one state gets the channel changed(Unless it can be blamed on Obama or Clinton, then it would get more national coverage). It was covered on local news stations in the state it happened along with some national attention.
"shiny keys to distract us."
It has not one thing to do with distracting us. It's all about viewers and profits.

(10,134 posts)The news media focuses on issues that they think will attract the most eyeballs. Income inequality is not as big an issue as Sanders, Moore and Warren want it to be.

(92,108 posts)how out of touch he really is. This should be no surprise though after his Nader involvement in 2000

Moore started this snowball rolling in 2000 with his support for Ralph Nader
All is not forgiven for what you did in 2000.
Not coincidently, the Russian interference is also not a big deal with the likes of Jill Stein, Susan Sarandon, Matt Tabbi, Glenn Greenwald etc.
Those of us who were there or witnessed the women's march on Washington saw how instead of trying to unite people, you used that opportunity to divide people, and slam the Democratic party, until Ashley Judd put you in your place. That was about uniting women throughout the country, not about your agenda Moore. It always is about you though, isn't it.

Well thanks to the likes of the Moore's, Sarandon's, Stein's, etc., they managed to facilitate where we are today. They are the republicans best friends

Who benefits from downplaying the evidence of outside election interference being key in HRC losing the WH in 2016?
Certainly not voters.

(64,951 posts)We can't pay attention to more than one thing at a time, apparently. Well, Mikey, i can and don't need your advice as to what is and is not important.
He's on the wrong side of this argument.

(58,785 posts)glories these days. In Columbine days most of us only knew his documentaries and had far less exposure to the man himself.
The WV teacher's strike was covered every day on my TV, and of course 10,000 times more every day in print media.
I thought perhaps he'd mean Russia was distracting from coverage of our domestic enemies, the archconservative libertarian/fascistic billionaires who've mainly taken over the Republican Party. They are a huge threat who opened the door to Russia's cyber invasion by weakening us for their own takeover, very much including cyber.
But no. Many of the more extreme types who call themselves capital-P Progressives (not all), in their eagerness to despise and reject Democrats, have found much to admire in Russia instead. It seems as if Moore may share their noxious orientation or has some other, questionable reason for objecting to our regarding Putin's Russia as an enemy.
Contemptible. I don't care if he's wired to be a wingnut. For gods' sake, just never let them ally with their ideological cousins on the far right!

(297,026 posts)trump steal the election for trump, moore. Don't ya think that's a wee bit more than a "shiny key"?
And, Stormy is about trump breaking the law again.
trump is a fucking Russian mole. And,, that's a "distraction"? Get a fucking clue, MM.
