Win Back Your State: New Leadership Starts At Home

Across America, Democrats are as energized as ever. Since the devastating election results in 2016, millions of us have taken to the streets in protest, called our legislators, and signed up to run for office in our hometowns and cities. New leaders have stepped up and led the way.

As someone who’s spent his career making a difference at the local level—as a City Councilman, Mayor and Governor—Martin O’Malley knows that real change first happens at the grassroots. That’s why he created Win Back Your State, a new PAC to support state and local Democratic candidates running in 2018.

With 36 Governors offices up for grabs in 2018, and the next Congressional redistricting in 2020, now is the time to paint a more positive American future. Help us win back our states, to win back our country.

wanted to look at something they could have done it themselves.

There was no basis for them to publicly reveal the investigation was happening. They could have done it privately, like they did with Trump.

There was no basis for that devastating press conference that Comey had in July and the unfair things he said.

And there was certainly no basis for that October Surprise where he publicly re-opened the investigation with 11 days to go.

a commanding stage presence yet? That's hugely important to electability, and he failed in that respect in 2016.

O'Malley should have done far better in the primaries, farther left than Clinton but reassuringly less than Sanders with a far more impressive record of achievements. But his presence was virtually obliterated on the stage by those two. I thought he did very well in closeup interviews.

If he improves his stage presence and delivery (as Clinton did tremendously before 2016), he'll also come into 2020 with a national identity established from 2016, no longer unknown, and perhaps be a very promising candidate. I hope so.

and on about all the things she hopes to do and how, but she learned not to and he can also. And I really like that about both of them -- a lot. Wish I remember the nickname enemies gave him for his efforts to clean up Chesapeake Bay and his "flush fee." No insult to me.

But it was more. It was also his presence on the stage. His voice was notably weaker than the others, who overshadowed him. Sanders, in spite of his very modest record and inability to explain how he would fulfill his promises, nevertheless shot right past a man of real achievements because of his authoritarian delivery of populist messages reduced to short, commanding phrases.

Speaking of deserts, I thought that interview in a car driving through one was very good.

There's lot of good, qualified candidates out there. They'll win school board and local elections like mayor.

We've already seen how well Malley did in the primaries. Despite his goodness, he was out early. He'd be the 2020 Mike Dukasis.

Obviously, it requires leadership abilities and charisma to enthuse and motivate a mass populace, innate desire to be recognized on a mass scale, drive, a gift for marketing oneself, oratory skills, a high degree of emotional intelligence, savvy,
an innate understanding of what appeals to a mass electorate, and the desire for a voting electorate to identify with that candidate. The candidate energizes and excites people and makes them feel good. That's a very incomplete list.

There's very few people with that combination of qualities.

I don't think its an accident that celebrities are often brought up as candidates. A higher percentage happen to have many of those skills.

O'Malley is not an exciting speaker. I see Trump doing to him what Trump did to Bush in 2016 with the name calling and questioning of masculinity. I think others will be better equipped to take Trump out, the best at that would be Biden, although his age bothers me. Tammy Duckworth would be an excellent choice, she emasculates that pig anytime he goes after her, she is young and tough.
