Pretty even-handed from the VT Digger, maybe even overly generous piece. I see two sentences that are false. The rest seems to be solid opinion mixed with fact.
Like most Vermonters, Sen. Bernie Sanders is probably looking forward to the coming of spring.
Maybe more than most. For Vermonts once and possibly future presidential candidate, this has been the winter of his discontent.
His presidential campaign got fined $14,500 by the Federal Elections Commission. The investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election revealed that the Russians tried to help Sanders as well as (though not nearly as much as) Donald Trump. His stepdaughter, Carina Driscoll, lost the race to be mayor of Burlington last week. His son, Levi, is being criticized because hes running for Congress in a New Hampshire district in which he does not live.
Above all is the federal probe into the multi-million-dollar real estate deal involving the now-defunct Burlington College when Sanders wife, Jane OMeara Sanders, was the college president. Investigators are examining whether, in applying for a bank loan to finance the deal, OMeara Sanders exaggerated how much the college was going to receive in donations.

(6,288 posts)That's what impartial journalism should be doing rather than brushing off the questionable actions while amplifying only the positives.
That is why MSM wad a total failure in 2016.
They aided in electing Trump by this deception.
VT Digger has been fair & quite honest with their reporting. They have backed up every statement about the Sanders family. Good or bad.
That's not " having it in for" someone, that's what journalism should be doing.

(5,272 posts)a few volunteers being flown here was a payment in kind, is even worth a mention, really? Really?
A college "scandal" that hasn't offered up a peep in months is also worth another mention, even though no other shoes have dropped?
What evens that bullshit out exactly?

(5,272 posts)There are billions, hell trillions, zillions, of facts. What facts are chosen and why is the question.

(30,481 posts)There aren't "zillions" of facts about him.
They are issues he is facing. They outline it well. I'm glad you accept them as facts, at least.

(5,272 posts)I guess he's in good shape. It sounds like a distorted level of amplification to me..."hey, in case you didn't hear about this troubling preponderance of bullshit, lets put it all in one place and see if it sticks"....
hell, he didn't even endorse his son. Why is that added into here as part of his discontent...that his son is being criticized for carpet-bagging. Its a pile on of weird ass shit.

"Levi Sanders is hardly the first person to trade on a famous name to run for office where he does not live. Robert F. Kennedy and Hillary Clinton did it, too."
Seems your verbiage makes it sound much worse than they did.

"The FEC fine, like many campaign finance cases, was much ado over very little."
"Levi Sanders is hardly the first person to trade on a famous name to run for office where he does not live. Robert F. Kennedy and Hillary Clinton did it, too."
"To some Sanders supporters, even the Jane Sanders investigation smacks of political dirty tricks. It began two years ago after Charlotte lawyer Brady Toensing wrote to federal officials urging a probe of what appears to be federal loan fraud. Toensing is a vice chair of the Vermont Republican Party."
"Sanders is hardly in political trouble. If he runs for another term this year (likely), he should win easily. If he runs for president again in 2020, he would probably start off as the first choice of the growing left-of-liberal faction of Democratic primary voters."
"Its a loyalty he has earned by his persistence and tenacity."
He keeps fighting for people and opposition is always strong, Gutman said. He fights against the ruling class, and thats a grinding battle. But he keeps making a point of the serious issues.
"So Sanders has not lost his focus or his mojo."
