Edward Snowden, Former CIA employee and famed NSA whistleblower, chimed in on the Facebook / Cambridge Analytica scandal in a series of tweets on Saturday.
Cambridge Analytica is under investigation for using millions of people's personal information, collected via an app, for Trump's 2016 campaign Facebook ads. Cambridge Analytica told Facebook that all of the data was deleted and never used, but Facebook claims they recently received a tip stating that is not true.
Snowden tweeted the following:
"Facebook makes their money by exploiting and selling intimate details about the private lives of millions, far beyond the scant details you voluntarily post. They are not victims. They are accomplices.
Businesses that make money by collecting and selling detailed records of private lives were once plainly described as "surveillance companies." Their rebranding as "social media" is the most successful deception since the Department of War became the Department of Defense."

No LinkedIn or WhatsApp either. Even my "smart" phone is a 10 year old G1 that can only SMS and do calls (as well as play MP3 files).
