BTRTN: In Case of Firing, Pull Here.

Born To Run The Numbers on what might happen if Trump actually goes nuclear and fires Robert Mueller.

http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/03/in-case-of-firing-pull-here.html

Excerpts:
"There are people who say that Donald Trump never really wanted to be President. They may have had a point back in the run-up to the election, but they are dead wrong now. Today, Donald Trump is desperate to hold onto his office, because he may have realized that being President of the United States is his best strategy and perhaps only hope for avoiding jail time – for him, and most of his family.

So let’s say Trump does fire Sessions and Rosenstein, and does find a toady who is willing to execute the Bork chop on Mueller. The real question is how Congress will react. Indeed, given that Republican congressional leadership appears to have catastrophic congenital defects – Ryan has no spine and McConnell has no balls -- it’s our bet that their view will be that Trump was acting within his authority in firing the special counsel, and that this action alone does not rise to the level of an impeachable offense. Each will pronounce the need to find a new special counsel, but everyone will know that the nominees coming from the Justice Department will be carefully screened Trump advocates. The risk will rise that the entire investigation will crumble.Which is why we think that Robert Mueller may have already planted a time bomb that is programmed to explode if – and only if – Trump elects to fire him."

What if the survivors of the next Saturday Night Massacre at Justice just tip Mueller's report into the shredder and announce "case closed?"

Yeah, it's illegal. That will stop them?

Thanks, I appreciate your comment, and let me give you my thoughts on it. There is no doubt that the surviving flunkies at DoJ could toss Mueller's report into the trash bin as you suggest. I am not even sure that such an act is even illegal, as it is totally DoJ's prerogative as to whether to act on a report from a special prosecutor. The real point I was trying to make was that Mueller went to the highly unusual step of leaking the information that his report on obstruction is complete. Were he to actually succeed in delivering a report to DoJ that accuses Trump of an impeachable offense, the pressure to see that report would be overwhelming. If the report were not complete, he could not deliver those findings to DoJ when he sensed that his firing was imminent. And by leaking the existence of the completed report, he put the world on notice that these conclusions have already been drawn. So you are absolutely right that the DoJ could try to shit-can it, but the broad public knowledge that it exists, that conclusions have been drawn, and that the report was delivered to the DoJ would make such an action extremely incendiary. But again, thanks for reading and commenting!!
