Ron Brownstein: Every time Donald Trump breaks a window, congressional Republicans obediently sweep up the glass.
Thats become one of the most predictable patterns of his turbulent presidencyand a defining dynamic of the approaching midterm elections. Each time they overtly defend his behavior, or implicitly excuse him by failing to object, they bind themselves to him more tightly.
With all of this, the GOP leadership is sending an unmistakable signal to voters antagonistic or ambivalent about Trump: So long as Republicans hold the congressional majority, they will not act to meaningfully constrain, or even oversee, the president. That choice represents an epic gamble for Novemberand beyond.

Republicans Face Epic Hurdle In Midterms
March 22, 2018 at 1:05 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Larry Sabatos Crystal Ball: Republicans already have more retirements than any presidential party in a midterm cycle from 1974 to 2018, and they are not far behind Democrats in 1978 in terms of the open seats they hold. Because seats lacking an incumbent are more difficult for the incumbent party to retain, this situation should deeply worry the GOP.

In 2010, I remember a lot of us, including myself, trying to convince ourselves that the generic ballot and special elections were not portents for the fall. They were. We got shellacked.
That's coming for the MAGAts, unless something truly earth-shaking happens. People know how they feel about these morons.

(54,358 posts)Republican electoral fraud machinery is still in place and well-oiled. Dirty money, gerrymandering, voting rights suppression, vote counting machines susceptible to manipulation and corrupt Republican Secretaries of State--none of those have changed. Republicans are just waiting to let articles like this dominate the free press while their press (right-wing-owned newspapers, Fox Noise and National Hate Radio) acts as if there's nothing to worry about. They might be right. WE are the ones that need to worry.
Don't forget, Bush, Jr. invaded Iraq, increased our budget deficit, and lost the 2004 election, but still got to stay in office because Diebold and Kenneth Blackwell promised to "deliver Ohio (and thus the 2004 presidential election) for Bush," which, indeed, they did.
