I was listening to Michelangelo Signorile's show yesterday and during the last 30 minutes of the show, he was discussing the whole Facebook/Zuckerberg non-apology. A few callers he took mentioned that during the 2016 Primary and General Election that their FB accounts were suspended for seemingly no apparent reason. The only thing they had been doing was advocating liberal/progressive positions. Usually, I dismiss such accounts on Progress 127 if its just one caller, but Michelangelo had on several callers who relayed nearly similar stories of having their FB accounts suspended for no apparent reason.
Over today, that discussion made me think:
1. Was FB intentionally shutting down user accounts who advocated for Bernie, then Hillary while allowing the Trump memes to go unfettered or unchallenged?
2. Was the FB/CA alliance (and I believe that relationship is closer than what's been reported to date) a means to not only get Trump elected, but to also disrupt Democratic party efforts to organize and communicate party positions and values?
Interested if any DUers who are on FB had a similar experience in 2016, or even last year. If so, I think that is something we should begin to discuss and if there is appears to be a pattern, then reach out to our media allies to get this discussion some light on TV and progressive radio.
Full disclosure, I have not been nor will I ever be a Facebook user.

(22,327 posts)abuse -- many feminists and POC have found their accounts suspended after posting fairly innocuous things. And while it generally runs fairly smoothly for its size, glitches happen, and people like to attribute malicious intent where there's just a bug. But anything's possible, I guess!

(5,210 posts)on the part of people who reported accounts they didn't LIKE for abuse of one kind or another, some of which absolutely ended in account suspension.

(4,930 posts)my partner was very active on FB during the last election and twice his account was suspended. He was calling out evangelicals for their hypocracy (he came out of that evil den). He knows how to argue with them and push their buttons and he isn't afraid to do it. Still, does seem that would rise to the level of getting suspended.
