Trump's record drone kills and now Bolton says they are completely full of shit.

(54,770 posts)this crud.
Bolton is just about the worst person I can imagine -- he's a racist, warmonger, tool of the Ruskies, and has an NRA position that is charged with spreading guns worldwide.

Somehow I don't think any of those are the target of this thread, but I give up.

(33,258 posts)When searching 'JPR' on duckduckgo, it didn't show up in several screens of hits (went through a couple hundred, at least). Searching 'DU' on the other hand got this place by the 19th hit.
JPR has a familiar look to the front page. Skimming the comments it looks like many are interested in 'primarying' Democrats. Sounds like the left's version of tea baggers. Is arithmetic that hard now?

(30,481 posts)They are truly nuts. I recognize a lot of the names. Whats the deal with their adoration of Putin? I guarantee they were targets of CA. I have never seen a group so impacted by fake news. They are clearly avid readers and most appear to have a good education. They are also clearly succeptable to conspiracy theories and completely opposed to reality.

(27,813 posts)... of how easily-manipulated people are easily manipulated.
They bragged endlessly about how they were "independent thinkers" who refused to be sheep - and then immediately followed every Judas goat that showed up on their site.
From PizzaGate to Hillary's imminent demise from a dozen fatal illnesses, they swallowed every ridiculous story hook, line, and sinker. There was literally no "fake news" story too ridiculous, too ludicrous, too over-the-top that they didn't embrace as "alternate facts" worth believing.
JPR was overrun with RWers from day one, who were later no doubt joined by Russian bots - because who could resist an audience so willing - even anxious - to be misled?

(27,813 posts)... eventually came out and stated that PizzaGate posts would be removed after people on other sites started pointing and laughing at JPR.
I don't read Discussionist, but I understand from people who post there that the JPR folks simply moved their PizzaGate discussions to that site.
Surely it doesn't surprise you that they swallowed that story whole - JPR was full of posts about how HRC was walking around in a full body-brace (due to her many illnesses). The day she fell ill during a parade in NYC, they insisted that metal bolts clattered to the ground as she was escorted to a car, and she was then rushed to a "secret hospital" located in Chelsea's apartment building.
Like I said, there was NO story too ludicrous to be dismissed.

(27,813 posts)JPR was launched (allegedly) as a pro-Bernie site - but its main purpose was being an anti-HRC site.
So naturally, RWers and Russian bots were attracted to it immediately as a place where easily-led people could be manipulated into believing anything negative about Hillary - and I do mean anything.
R B Garr
(16,950 posts)and I literally have to click out because they are so completely ignorant. Conspiracy theorists galore, so ignorant that it isn't even laughable anymore, just dangerously sad.
And then there are the JPR returnees....

(841 posts)People were posting conspiracy theories from Alex Jones and other right-wing cranks. The sad thing is I actually think some of these people are actual left-wingers because I have seen similar stuff posted on Truthdig, AlterNet and other left-wing sites.
The last election proved just how incapable many people are when it comes to critical thinking, including, as you point out, many "independent thinkers." There is also this weird phenomenon of hating all politicians unless they perfectly align with all of your views. If we only voted for perfect politicians then we will be waiting until the end of the world to vote. I wonder how so many people developed such an unrealistic view of politics.

I think Aristotle had it right: "[T]o say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true."
Condemning an error is sometimes an error but merely a tactical one, and it's often the right thing to do.
