from my kid's school. This is the 4th or 5th time this school year that his school has been on lockdown because of a gun on campus. This time they found it in a student's car.
Let that sink in. These are the cases that don't make the news and it damned well should. Is it his parent's gun? Did they leave it where he could get access to it?

(2,520 posts)Now I see 3-4 bogus gun threats a week in all the local school districts. They've been arresting 14, 15 and 16 year old pranksters.

(1,202 posts)stolen guns are always a threat. Just one threatening example. Guns are stolen from cop cars and used illegally. Someone could easily have thought they hit paydirt.
Why is a kid even bringing a gun to school? Something to retrieve after lunch depending no the last math test scores?

(2,120 posts)... with all due respect to you, you confirmed my theory. Hope your child(ren) stay safe and no offense to you if it sounds like I'm dogging your region!

(90,643 posts)I was not aware until last week that they have had several lockdowns already this school year. This means his mother is going to go on home schooling him, out of raw fear.
that makes me so sad I can only imagine how you all feel, Hekate.

(23,307 posts)and it's MARCH? That is horrendous. I can't let it sink in. It should be shocking and we have to stop it. The parents who allow access to firearms should be charged.

(14,530 posts)Since Sept. But still. I agree with the parents being charged. Where are they getting the guns? I want the registered owner/purchaser of the gun charged. I want the kid charged and an ankle monitor to track his where abouts.

(23,307 posts)Still not okay. I so sympathize with you. The conversations we are having with our 12 year old about guns at school are something I never could have envisioned. We just had a kid who shot a gun in the high school parking lot end up in a high speed chase with police. He crashed his car and was arrested but because he was a minor we haven't heard anything since. I like the ankle monitor idea. Clearly somebody needs to be watching these kids.

(14,530 posts)with negligence when their kids took their gun and brought it to school, I think we would find more parents would lock their guns up.

(23,307 posts)I guess keeping their own child and other children alive isn't enough reason to lock up their firearms. Good grief.
