I got that from one of Initech's RWNJs posts. Most applicable term I've heard for them.

(37,154 posts)In my teenage years, the Russian suffix "-nik" was a favorite of conservatives (evangelicals prominent among them) to describe people whose views they ascribed to being dupes or active agents of Russia. "Freezenik" "Peacenik".
Let the same rules apply. And, all things considered, be more accurate today.

(17,984 posts)An evangelical called everyone else luciferian occultists, but I think it is perfectly suited to them.

(1,020 posts)And after they say stuff, be sure to add, "according to the prophecy."
"No transgenders in the military, according to the prophecy."
We're giving Trump a mulligan, according to the prophecy."
After a while, their dogma becomes ludicrous to even the most casual observer.

(19,186 posts)you can do anything you want; be the biggest whoremonger on the planet, steal from people, wrongly accuse them of misdeeds, not pay your bills, covet everything your "neighbor" has, even murder people, and as long as the religious guy in the $5,000 suit comes up and splashes you with some water and tells you, "The Lord forgives you", everything is peachy keen. Jebus hits the reset button and all is forgiven and forgotten.
The you can go out and do this all again, and it can all be swept under the rug once more, but only if you confess your "sins" and and ask for Jebus's forgiveness.
What a racket! It all seems a little bit too good to be true, if you ask me. But hey, the evanHELLicals believe it, so it must be true, right?
If there's one thing Trump knows how to do, it's use the law in his favor (or disregard it completely). That's any kind of law, man's or god's.

(7,616 posts)You can believe any fool thing and in most cases act on it as long as you claim it was based on a " sincerely held religious belief".
The ultimate get out of jail card.

(11,583 posts)They probably wouldn't have voted for Hilary, but I really couldn't see either of them voting for Trump. My maternal grandparents were die hard liberals so they would have voted Hilary in a second.
