I feel like in preparation for 2020.....

....we need to remember to keep pointing out, that contrary to conventional wisdom and talking points prior to January of 2017:

1) The president apparently CAN act unilaterally. A lot.
2) Supreme Court Justices now only need 51 votes to be confirmed.
3) Reconciliation bills (for example lets say....the GOP tax bill) DON'T need to be deficit neutral.
4) A supermajority is not needed to advance a majority party's agenda through and make real changes to the fabric of this country.

We definitely should give our party the benefit of the doubt in that they might have been unaware of this information when we held the presidency and 59 votes in the Senate. But seeing the GOP make drastic changes to our country with much less than that, we can all agree that those old rules no longer apply and that once we get the presidency, the house and 51 Senate seats that we should have no problem passing a solid Democratic agenda.

So let's do this.

We need to remember that the VAST majority of the damage Trump has accomplished is through dismantling the federal regulatory scheme. It takes a decade or more to go from proposed regulation to getting a regulation that has the effect of law. Every regulation Trump destroys with the stroke of a pen will take decades to bring back.

Because the OP is exactly correct, however, control of a veto proof majority in Congress, OR a simple majority and the presidency, means we can take every regulation Trump has destroyed, introduce it as proposed legislation, pass it essentially overnight, and restore our Government.

We need only win and enforce the same kind of discipline in our caucus that the Republicans have been doing in theirs.
