Paul McCartney Invokes John Lennon at March for Our Lives

Beatles legend Paul McCartney was among the many celebrities who took to the streets on Saturday around the country, joining hundreds of thousands of people protesting gun violence in America.

Interviewed by CNN in New York City, McCartney, sporting a “We Can End Gun Violence” t-shirt, made clear that the issue is personal to him.

“One of my best friends was killed by gun violence right ‘round here,” he said.

McCartney was of course referring to his former bandmate John Lennon, who was fatally shot by Mark David Chapman at the entrance to the Dakota, his residence on the Upper West Side.

Since Lennon’s death, more than 1 million Americans have been killed as a result of gun violence.

For what that is worth.

5. Compare NYC's gun homicide rate to any non-American

city in the industrialized world, and your good news becomes sobering news.

But it's at a historic low - which is something.

9. It's only "something" to those who accept mediocrity.

In 2015-2016 there were 26 gun-related homicides in the UK. Needless to say, this number is far lower than NYC's total in that time frame.

I don't have the numbers for 1980, but John would have been much safer in England than the UWS of Manhattan.

Gun violence is at a historic low in NYC - that is a big deal.

11. You accept mediocrity. Sadly, most Americans do.

Conservatives may appreciate your efforts to downplay violence in the city, but those of us with higher standards see little about New York's gun homicide rate that's worth crowing about.

they were like brothers, who went through some very tough times... but in the end they had mended things and were in contact.

If anyone has satellite radio I highly recommend channel 118- the Beatles Channel. Honestly, besides a bit of democratic politics, I rarely listen to anything else anymore. The Beatles are timeless and on this station we also learn about their history as well as how they influenced today's music. It is an excellent station!!
