Dear GOP/NRA.
She is bigger than you and brighter than you and she shines as a survivor of a tragedy. Emma never crawled away. She stood and spoke for the victims and the survivors and then DEMANDS CHANGE! Days, it only took them days to raise the money and organize massive marches. Millions turned out. Millions. You all are such small people attacking her, for her shaved hair, your crude comments on her sexuality, as if you even know her. You want to diminish her voice and the students at Parkland. The NRA and GOP and any fucking politician that does not demand change now are phathetic wimps on the payroll of the NRA. Fact. You wimped out after Sandy Hook. You are all incredible losers. In the end the children will win.
Our children found their voice. Beware they are coming for you in the voting booth. Fact. They are fearless. They are our future.
They are the world. They are our future. They are the ones to make a better life for you and me.

(14,167 posts)Beautiful on the inside and outside, too.
She has a big heart, a fierce spirit, and a bright future.
Inside and out, Tatiana. She shines and her heart holds them all, not just Parkland.
She is just a child and smarter than many of us.

(1,474 posts)I shed tears by the bucket when I listen to her. Her silence was outlasted by my weeping. Fuck the NRA and gop. Emma is a national treasure and she makes me cry like a baby.
She gives me so much hope for the future.

It is about we, not me. Forward together.

(83,729 posts)"Only a brainwashed Lefty could possibly look at this meme and deduce there's racial prejudice," said King in a post signed "Team King."
snip
King made a name for himself criticizing immigrants. He's argued, "We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies" and questioned whether non-whites added anything to civilization. He's been praised by former KKK leader David Duke, toasted an immigrant's deportation and displayed a Confederate flag on his desk, despite being a native Iowan representing a state that remained in the Union during the Civil War.
Fuck Steve.

(83,729 posts)The blue wave. When I look at it I see a picture, a woman's face. I have a touch screen and can enlarge the image. I am not kidding here, it is a woman's face emerging. Our future.
Women rising. May the GOP fear us forever more.

(2,679 posts)And yeah I too think Emma is a beautiful human being. Same with the other kids. That David guy, whoa, does he remind me of RFK with the intense eyes. I have always loved RFK. I could go on and talk about all those kids, but this is an Emma thread, so... But damn that's a pretty blue wave coming into the shore. Hopefully we get that come Nov.

(83,729 posts)It makes them stronger.
I we now have a new generation to take up the mantle. It is their time. We have done the fight for years. It is their time and we will have their backs every step of the way. I will give Donnie and the gop credit for one thing. We woke and we will never go back.

(37,648 posts)That's a lot for a young person. Almost total adoration on one side, and bullying if not outright verbal attacks on the other.
I hope her mother is keeping tabs on how her daughter is coping with all this.
Then again, maybe she can write a book when this is all over, and get her college paid for. But I hope she doesn't crumble in the process. She's a special person, but she's so young.

(4,242 posts)end of her song, and then dramatically the song became a back and forth chant with the audience - I'm pretty sure Emma instigated that. What a woman. And she was so cute when an interviewer asked her group how they felt about the hate attacks & name calling. Emma and the girls laughed, and said it was stupid - just like kids would respond - too cute.

(4,858 posts)...this happened to Martin Luther King in Birmingham, in 1955. The Boycott was a mass movement, but he became its face--and was ready for the role. Something similar has happened to Emma Gonzalez, for better or worse. She has star quality, and the weight of history has been thrust upon her shoulders. It's a big weight for anyone, much less someone her age. I think she--and her generation--are equal to the task. There will be conflicts, disappointments, ups, and definitely downs, in the days and years to come. I wish I could live to see more than a fraction of what their generation will do for this country, for us all.

(37,748 posts)She and the other students have given a voice to a large segment of the population who have had quieted their own voices due to hacks and idiots who argue terminology over ethics, polls over safety, the Now-is-not-the-timers, the That'll-lose-us-the-election-for-sure downers, and a host of other shrill bullet points irrelevant to what she watched happen with her own eyes.
These kids are slapping conventional wisdom before conventional wisdom has even focused-grouped its PR points of the week. I think it's why (even on DU) it's only been this week that the guns-for-profit industry has finally begun focusing on them... they see a threat not simply to their profits of today, but to their very existence tomorrow.
