(83 posts)Clinton offered some rather unvarnished remarks in India this weekend that sound a lot like her deplorables commentary from September 2016. She played up the states that supported her as more economically advanced than the states that voted for Trump, calling them dynamic and moving forward. Then she again suggested Trump supporters were motivated by animosity toward women and people of color.
If you look at the map of the United States, there's all that red in the middle where Trump won, Clinton said. I win the coast. I win, you know, Illinois and Minnesota places like that.
She went on: But what the map doesn't show you is that I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product. So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward.
Then she turned to Trump's voters: And his whole campaign 'Make America Great Again' was looking backward. You know, you didn't like black people getting rights; you don't like women, you know, getting jobs; you don't want to, you know, see that Indian American succeeding more than you are you know, whatever your problem is, I'm gonna solve it.

(61,588 posts)I grew up in a rural community that has been dying since the 1950s. The dwindling number of inhabitants of that little town stubbornly resist anything that might drag them into modern times. They are anti-intellectual, xenophobic, afraid of cities, terrified of black people, homophobic, etc. They are in economic dire straits due to their own choices and their communities' choices over 70 years. They vote Republican, always.
Fuck em. Seriously. Tired of their whining.

(37,748 posts)A scandal as odious and weighted as Obama using Dijon mustard on a hamburger, thus illustrating his deep elitism and true disdain for the very people we should be reaching out to so that we may better embrace and understand the sub-literate demographic of our fellow Americans. Or something like that...

She's fairly disciplined, I can believe someone actually vetted that phrase.

(23,338 posts)No, wait, I DID vote for her. And I'd do it again.
Even if she ate Cornflake-crusted deep fried chicken.
Or ate pizza with a knife and fork.

(82,849 posts)And it's really weird; if you check the WaPo article posted above in the thread, it appears that Clinton was telling it like it is and pulling no punches. If I recall correctly, that's precisely why all those Trump voters voted for Trump, and the popular media just can't stop themselves from going back to those voters, and hearing them say that Trump tells it like it is and doesn't pull his punches.
When Clinton does the exact same thing, those same media talking chuckleheads just hate, hate, hate it. Since we know the reason can't possibly be sexism, there must be another reason for this baffling double standard.
