I have a feeling that Trump would let someone take the fall and Manafort is on his own?

(14,270 posts)Seems like he's stuck in his house indefinitely. I would imagine he must be getting stir crazy and impatient.
Perhaps he's planning to ride this out until Trump's last day in office and his deus ex machina is delivered. I suspect that over the course of the next few months, Trump's guilt and involvement will become so apparent that he may leave abruptly with nary a pardon executed.

(23,374 posts)Also, I don't know if Manafort would go to a minimum security prison for what he has done.

(10,437 posts)investigation and prosecution is happening at the state level and trump can't do shit on that. Believe me, prison time in a federal prison is a bit better than prison time in a New York State prison. That is what Mueller should inform all his targets...

(2,857 posts)He will not flip because that is a death sentence for him. Putin will give him a bolt hole at some point and that is where he will stay. Not putting him in jail sealed the deal. There will be a way for him to leave created and he will never be seen here again.

(3,764 posts)I really think the only reason he hasn't flipped yet is because he's counting on a pardon, and I think this is something he and Trump discussed a LONG time ago. But there are a couple of problems with that. First of all, even if he does get pardoned, I've got a sneaking suspicion that AG Schneiderman is hiding in the reeds right now, just waiting to pop out and hit him with some State charges that he can't be pardoned for. And second, I think when it's all said and done, Manafort may end up getting charged with Treason. If that happens, look for him to start signing like Ethel Merman on an entire case of Red Bull.

(21,786 posts)By accepting a pardon you waive your Fifth Amendment rights relating to the issue you were pardoned for. So he'd have to talk then or be held in contempt (which can mean "imprisoned" and/or punitively fined). He really has no good options.
