1. I kind of noticed that black students were not highlighted as much as the others.

Typical in our culture, where black activism is not considered mainstream... it's always marginalized.

But the issue highlights a common problem, people that look like and speak like the people doing the coverage get heard over other, equally as important voices.

11%. He exaggerated either out of ignorance or just in the way that made the school sound more diverse that it really is. But 25% is the number he cited.

He made a point of reaching out to black students, just not at his own school. And there are more Latinos than blacks at his school, but one of the spokeskids is Latino. (No, I don't decline adjectives for number/gender agreement in English, except for blond/blonde, and that I do only because it annoys people. I begrudgingly show agreement for Tolstaya, the author, because that's what she calls herself, but her father was a Tolstoy. Otherwise, when talking about Putine, I'd refer Putinu with the right case and start dropping prepositions. You don't want to know what I'd do with names like Havel or Tusk or Kaczynski. If you contort English to serve one other grammatical system, I think it should serve all to avoid bias and the appearance of flattery.)

I think 2% "mixed," but that could include Asian-Latino or white-Native-American.

11. At least one young hero has been fighting for his life --

a 15 year old African American used his body to block the door so his classmates would be saved. He's been in critical condition since then, I think. He got a bit better, but then an infection set in and he was critical again. I don't know of his status right now.

There were 17 killed and 17 wounded -- I don't know the racial makeup of the other 16 wounded.

10. I think the ones that were most directly affected were the friends of those that were killed.

They would navigate to each other as a support group. It was a very traumatic life experience.

I assumed that black students were already involved??
