I despise Roseanne's politics. But removing pictures from the context that explain them for the express purpose of weaponizing them as a lie is WRONG.
In fact, it's 100% trumpian.
It's Rosanne-ish.
It's not just deplorable, it's despicable.
(And no one's marching to stand up for this bullshit.)

(99,710 posts)I don't see the world in black and white. I do believe we should be judged by the same standards.

Roseanne is a horrible human being as of late, but her humor is just as good as its always been, even if her opinions are shit.
As far as Good Friday goes, I am anti-religion, so I could give two shits about it.

(6,568 posts)I doubt Kathy Griffin, who has a huge following mind you, feels that her career is "destroyed". Especially since she's staring in a new series coming soon.

DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)Was her career damaged by her controversial tweet ?
One comedienne makes a controversial tweet and loses a New Year's Eve gig with a major cable television news network despite begging for forgiveness:
https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/30/entertainment/kathy-griffin-trump-tyler-shields/index.html
and another comedienne makes multiple controversial tweets and is rewarded with a prime time television series.
If you truly believe both comediennes were held to the same standard there is nothing I can do to disabuse you of that notion.
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)So your entire premise is moot.

(99,710 posts)Did one comedienne seemingly suffer repercussions for her work and the other didn't ?

Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)She rescinded her apology, however.
Also, that means she's lost one day of work since this whole thing happened. Must be devastating.
And the show she's getting, she gets to play KellyAnne Conway.
Roseanne, however, wasn't "rewarded with a show", it was Sarah Gilbert who put it together trying to get a reboot to happen.
It should be noted, however, that while Roseanne is an executive producer on the show, the reboot was put together by Sarah Gilbert (who plays Darlene and is also an executive producer). Whitney Cummings is the show runner, and Norm MacDonald is writing. Cummings and Gilbert are both liberals. MacDonald is an apolitical Canadian. Roseanne's views are very much outnumbered on the series.
With that said, I'm done arguing about this. It's pointless. You're gonna live in your little bubble, not watch it, and complain about it. Me, I'm gonna watch all nine episodes and enjoy them.

(99,710 posts)I wonder if someone can find her now deleted tweet where she said Trump's opponents hate him because he likes Jews.
I see some people arguing that she has emotional problems and that mitigates her responsibility for her aberrant behavior. Yet her emotional problems haven't prevented her from deleting the tweets she knows are offensive.
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)Those are terrible things that she should be criticized.
Accusing her of racism against Jewish people based on a photo she (a Jewish person) took in a Jewish comedy magazine is not warranted, however.
With that said, Ill still watch the show, because I can seperate the art from the artist.

(1,009 posts)Not because of those pictures (which are absolutely deplorable, and so is Roseanne), but because Trump thinks this is his "Trumpster show" about "us", and any win for him *in his head* is not going to be on my viewing dime.
My feeling about the show, as I've mentioned before, but at least my hopes if it remains - is that this will be some form of RESISTANCE AGAINST roseanne and Trump. That's why I was going to watch it again, but changed my mind, because of Trump.
Those pics - Barr is jewish, and she's absolutely mental if she thinks it's ok. It's actually a bit sociopathic to not realize or accept how painful it is for people who were affected by the holocaust.

(41,956 posts)I put this in that category. It does make me uncomfortable, and I think that's the intention. Boundaries are pushed and sometimes they go too far. I think this one does, but I also think there's a bit of "privilege" in feeling free to tell a Jewish satire magazine and a Jewish woman what's appropriate if you're not Jewish. So I won't claim to have an informed opinion about how the people who did this ought to feel nor the people who were targeted.
As I said, it makes me uncomfortable. But it's satire. And I value that art form. It's as risky as it gets. Sometimes you get reactions like this. I wouldn't want a world without that risk and the opportunities for having these conversations.
Ms. Toad
(34,055 posts)As a non-Jew, I don't get to tell Roseanne (a jew) or Heeb (a Jewish publication) what they can or cannot say about Hitler or the Holocuast.
It may be clearer by analogy. As a white, I don't get to tell African Americans who are using the "N" word that they don't get to do that, and I don't get to use the "N" word, just because I am in the midst of a group of African Americans who are throwing it around.
When something has been used as a weapon against you, you get to decide whether/when to reclaim/repurpose/etc. it. Not me - unless I also belong to the targeted group. I have no more right to butt into your choice as to how to handle that weapon, than I would have to use it in the first place. It would, in fact, be an abuse of privilege, as a non-Jew to tell you, a Jew, what is or is not appropriate in that context.
But - there are plenty of other reasons for me not to watch Roseann (even if I had access to TV, which was stolen in the analog->digital conversion pretty much stole from us

(34,055 posts)Are you seriously suggesting, that, as a white woman, I have the right to criticize a black person's use of the "N" word? Or that it isn't used regularly within some black communities?
I taught in an inner city school for 11 years, during which time, out of roughly 1,100 students I had a single white student. I heard the "N" word from my students on a daily basis. Not my place to tell them they can't reclaim that word (or to use it just because they are freely using it around me). ON the flip side, there were black teachers who regularly had conversations with them. That is their right - as people against whom that word has been used as a weapon.
