Laura Ingraham is taking a vacation next week. Now the question is whether a controversy swirling around the host will go on hiatus as well.
The popular Fox News Channel host her Ingraham Angle was the fourth most-watched cable-news program in February told viewers Friday night she would not appear on air next week as she took what she described as a pre-planned break around the Easter holiday with her children. Substitute hosts are expected to fill in for her on the program.
She leaves in the midst of heightened scrutiny. Ingraham set off an imbroglio Wednesday with a Twitter post mocking Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg, one of the students who has spoken out about gun control prominently since a February 14th shooting incident at the Parkland, Florida school left 17 people dead. Her tweet linked to a report noting Hogg had been rejected from four California colleges. Her tweet also said Hogg whines about the rejections. In response, Hogg posted on social media a list of recent advertisers in her program culled from Media Matters, a left-leaning watchdog group, and urged followers to pressure them to remove their commercials from Ingrahams show. Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, TripAdvisor, Nutrish, Expedia and Hulu a video-streaming company partly owned by Fox News parent 21st Century Fox are among the advertisers who have said they would no longer advertise in her program.
Ingraham apologized Thursday via Twitter, noting that she was sorry for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland. She invited the student to appear on her program. Hogg said he would not accept her apology.

(58,785 posts)The gist is that unfortunate Laura Ingraham is the newest victim of systematic attempts to suppress free speech on Fox that started with poor Bill O'Reilly, that David's speech is far more vicious than Ingraham's (this latest tweet, don't look at anything else), and that the media are too intimidated to speak out about what's happening.
Either way, we've entered some dangerous territory here, if boycotts like this one succeed. ... But things have gone sideways since. Hogg has played loose with more than a few facts and has leveled the same kind of personal attacks on which he's basing this boycott. ...
There are exceptions to those not willing to challenge Hogg, starting first and foremost with conservative writer/commentator and podcast/radio host Ben Shapiro. "I look forward to Hogg's apologies to Republicans ('sick f***ers'), Dana Loesch (she was 'hypocritical and disgusting' for criticizing Broward Sheriff Scott Israel), and Marco Rubio (he said Rubio was bribed by the NRA to give away children's lives)," Shapiro wrote in the online publication he founded, The Daily Wire.
"You may not like what Ingraham said. You may disagree with it. I did. But it isn't remotely CLOSE to the level of viciousness with which Hogg has attacked people who disagree with him," Shapiro added. And Shapiro is correct. As is Parkland student Kyle Kashuv.
And therein lies the rub: As stated, Hogg should be treated as an adult. It's the arena he chose to enter and had every right to do so, given his abilities and what he experienced. But if a boycott succeeds here, it sets the kind of precedent that will forever change what the First Amendment is supposed to stand for. ...

Not a single word about the routine despicable lies and hatemongering broadcast by those being boycotted, not a word about the REASONS why at least 12, possibly up to 22, companies (depending on what you read) have finally decided to pull their advertising. Not a word about Ingraham's increasingly extremist, hatemongering messages as she shifted to an Ann Coulter model far worse than when most of these companies agreed to advertise on her show.

(51,584 posts)her by my Grandfather. We each got a bunny and mine died. My parents told us the other one was sent to a bunny farm. My sister and I believed it in a way then someone let it slip that our friendly neighbor ate it and my parents gave it to him. My sister and I were 40 and 42 years old when we found out and were horrified! This is in the "normal suburbs" too. I can't look at them the same way now whenever it's Easter Time. Your joke was perfect!

I've found over the years that talking to Customer "Service" gets little done.
I've also found that calling corporate and asking for the CEO by name is an effective way to get upper management to listen.
So for anyone who is bored with a relaxing Monday after Easter, here are a few names and phone numbers. Perhaps others can add to the list.

(43,173 posts)All the great Fox News hosts go on vacation there after they've sufficiently embarrassed themselves.
Some come back--Sean Hannity, Jesse Watters.
Some don't--Bill O'Reilly, Eric Boling.
Fox News Misbehavior Island--the perfect vacation spot for Fox News jackasses.
