(102,225 posts)company or agency has to do. R's want to totally privatize it so badly it bleeds off the page.
I'm guessing they are including that debt in the equation, but not sure. Or as others suggest, it is simply totally made up.

(52,196 posts)he's probably using some overall numbers from the post office, which includes the artificially high cost of overfunding pensions, which is a peculiar gimmick republicans have been using to make it look like the post office operates at a loss.

(58,785 posts)Even after Republicans have invested years in trying to destroy it against our successful efforts to save it, not without significant damage with the loss of the mailman in the daily lives of many Americans and in their neighborhoods, though.

In other words, Republicans requires that the post office lose money, then complain that it loses money.

(31,261 posts)Amazon package delivery appears to be a big reason why the Postal Service isn't in grave shape after republicans in Congress saddled the agency with the pension prepay requirement (when Dems have full power again, that requirement MUST be modified).
The USPS pretty had it's nose going under water before Amazon stepped in during the late 90s or early 2000s (forget which). The Amazon deal was and still is a big win for the USPS.
Someone on DU pointed out that UPS and FEDEX have the USPS do the expensive last leg of delivery to rural areas and small town and cities. If Trump really wanted to be helpful to the USPS, he would demand that UPS and FEDEX pay the USPS more for the final leg delivery, share the profit. At least Amazon is paying full trip fair, from the shipping point to customer's hand.

(23,968 posts)I was shocked when an Amazon package arrived on a Sunday. The post office makes good money from Amazon if they're delivering on Sunday.

(7,754 posts)lightning fast. FedEx is so bad, I no longer even order from companies that use them. The GOP has been trying to privatize the post office for years so, you'd think this partnering with Amazon would be right up their alley. It's obviously not the business model but the fact that the WP criticizes Trump day in and day out. He's a liar, plain and simple.

(7,185 posts)"Since 2007, the Postal Service has been required to allocate 5.5 percent of its fixed costs to package delivery and to incorporate that into its pricing. That figure made sense then, but today, 25 percent of the Postal Service's business is package delivery. And thanks to features of the Amazon deal such as Sunday delivery, grocery delivery, even delivery from fish markets to local restaurants the expenses have climbed.
In fact, they've climbed so much, according to a recent analysis by Citigroup, that the Postal Service should be charging Amazon $1.46 more per package than the $2 or so it does now. "Amazon now enjoys low rates unavailable to its competitors," the Journal story said. "It's as if Amazon gets a subsidized space on every mail truck.""
