That they would abuse kids who survived a school massacre.

(12,618 posts)The American right today cares about nothing and nobody but their own power and there is no low they will not go to to protect it. Any talk of morality, patriotism, or benevolence from them is and always has been horseshit.

It is not just the school kids. It is the entire inability to see the evil that they have unleashed on this country.

(115,607 posts)There is no bottom to their barrel; remember, Trump made fun of a disabled man. He and his minions are bullies and nobody is safe from their abuse. They're just adult versions of the mean kids in middle school who picked on the fat kids, the kids with thick glasses or braces; the poor ones, the clumsy ones, the developmentally disabled ones, the minorities. We are living in a huge, dystopian middle school.

In a Parliamentary debate with the Conservative MP, John Pakington (May 31, 1866). Hansard, vol 183, col 1592. Pakington was referring to Footnote 3 to Chapter 7 of Mill's "Considerations on Representative Government".

I underestimated the thirst for power on the right. And the degree to which GOP politicians are purchased by billionaires. All the smart independent people have been pushed out of the GOP. All that are left are apparatchiks and fools.

I've had a death threat from a conservative.
Oh yeah, and they will go lower still.
They are like southern democrats in 1850 demanding northern states enforce their slave laws. Look at where "no compromise" took them.
I fear we are on that path.

(20,814 posts)parents whose children were murdered in a school massacre, and they abuse survivors of other mass shootings, and attempt to sweep all such shootings under the rug no matter how many victims (Las Vegas, anyone?). So, yeah, it doesn't surprise me in the least. Look who their media people are and how horrible they've been for many years.

(611 posts)...how low they can go before it costs them more votes that it gets them. The only good thing that will come of this is if Trump splits the Republican Party into two separate parties. One for the Deplorables, another for people who are fiscally or socially conservative, but sane and horrified by Trump. Neither would have enough voters to do a lot. One can but hope. Perhaps an alternative party could be encouraged to be formed, one like the old GOP.

My grandparents taught us from day one about their crap - having survived the Depression they wanted to make sure we knew how rotten they are and NEVER trust them.

(12,568 posts)It took the right three whole days to take what was a clear win for Obama and find some way to frame it negatively. They finally came up with, "Obama's trying to take the credit away from the brave men in Seal Team Six" (he never did this). Then they found some ex-Seal Team member to "swift boat" the President, and made sure he appeared on every Fox News show.
It's all part of the right's playbook.

(26,044 posts)I've concluded that right-wingers essentially developed their view of reality in high school, where the strong always won, and any sign of weakness made one deserving of being bullied into oblivion. What were seeing today, just like everything we've been seeing in the Republican Party since Nixon honored the "hardhats" who attacked peaceful anti-war protesters, is the essence of that worldview, sadly.

Conservatives... attacking the underage survivors of a school massacre! This is a surreal moment in history.
Note: I'm referring to mainstream conservatives here. The far right deplorables don't know the meaning of the word "too low".

(5,704 posts)would stoop so low. If they do not care about little children or teenagers being killed at school, one wonders if they would give a shit when a cop shoots an unarmed black man or child.
The republicans have reached a new low and one wonders how there could be 'two americas'! For me, it is mind boggling! The republicans discard life and the Democrats preserve life and it pisses me off that an asshole got elected. What were the founding fathers thinking? Their vision is archaic and there needs to be electoral reform!
