Gingrich: “I don’t think I’m going to win.”

January 2, 2012 1:23 PM

Newt Gingrich is admitting defeat. Lagging in the polls just a day before Iowa’s caucuses, the former speaker said that attacks from other candidates have made it nearly impossible to pull off an upset. “I don’t think I’m going to win,” he told reporters. “If you look at the numbers, that volume of negativity has done enough damage.” Still, Gingrich said he’d persevere, and “tomorrow night will be a victory because I’m still standing.”

TRANSLATION: "My campaign was never about winning, but undermining Ron Paul in to clear the way for Mitt Romney, for which I'll be richly rewarded by the Rethug leadership. If I'd really wanted to win, I never would have taken myself out of the running by saying the insane things I did."

Geebus. I don't normally like to exploit another's misfortune, but I can proudly say I left Atlanta to move back to Denver and saw him defeated as he returned through the Atlanta Airport after loosing his Speakership. I wouldn't mind being the "welcoming" (snarf) committee as he returns--wherever his home is now-- defeated once again. This man deserves every bit of contempt and Schadenfreude we can muster.

Talking on a cell phone at baggage claim. I walked by and glared at him, but you could tell he was very determined to ignore everyone.... No one else paid him any attention, so I smiled to myself and just thought how perfect my final departure from Georgia back to Denver surely was. LOL
