Consumerism indicator of wealth

On cnn http://money.cnn.com/2012/08/01/news/economy/poor-income/index.htm?hpt=hp_t2 the conservatives say that consimer spending proves That living standards and not by income indicate wealth. So all the credit and debt they have piled on people so that their companies can make more money while paying us less and increasing poverty. And this income inequality is killing us literally. I thought conservatives were against spending and debt and living beyond your means. Unless they get to spend your money and take everything you have.

because a good majority probably own all those cheap ones left over when the market was flooded with the newest, bestest, super large ones came out. For $199 or less one could have bought a new tv. They should ask how much they paid for one.
