I've changed my mind about Michelle Wolf's routine.

Sort of. I still don't think it was all that funny, which I have stated in other threads, although a lot of other people obviously did. But humor is subjective, and what amuses one person might leave someone else cold. I think Colbert could have done it better, but when I read the transcript the next day, at least some of the jokes did seem funnier than when she delivered them. Maybe I found her style too off-putting to enjoy the jokes (and her voice is awful), and I did find some of them to be mean-spirited and crude. But that really isn't the point. I'm just an ordinary person watching the thing on TV, and maybe my reaction was "meh," but so what? My opinion doesn't count. What has me totally pissed off, though, is that the WHCA fucking apologized!

My point is that if the purpose of the WHCD is to celebrate the First Amendment, a comedian, or anyone else, should feel free to be offensive and call out the president, his minions, and the press itself, because that's what the First Amendment allows us to do. The WHCA knuckled under to the whining from the WH, and probably some of the entitled inner-circle journalists who didn't like being roasted by someone who was hired to do a roast. Seriously? They'll defend the First Amendment as long as nobody was offended? Fuck that.

The WHCD has become sort of a parody of itself, though. It's become a high-falutin' celebrity gathering where the main event is a comedy routine in which a comedian roasts various important people and is then criticized for it. Maybe they should just go back to being a dinner for industry folks where they award scholarships to students and say nice things about each other, then get back to work.

So anyhow, brava to Michelle Wolf, whose comedy style I don't care for but so what? At least she had more guts than the chickenshit WHCA.

We know who you are!

People here were mostly criticizing the style, lack of humor (completely subjective as you suggest)(I laughed at her jokes, which is completely involuntary response). The sickening thing was to see the press cow-tow to these Nazis after they got their feelings hurt.

I am totally with you on this.
