The absence of thought: TMZ journalist slams Kanye West to his face for saying slavery was a choiceBOB BRIGHAM
01 MAY 2018 AT 16:17 ET
Controversial musician Kayne West joined TMZ Newsroom to try and rehabilitate his image after his tweetstorm praising President Donald Trump.
Harvey Levin asked West, who is married to Kim Kardishan, about the message he was trying to send by donning a Make America Great Again hat in support of President Trump.
-snip-
West expounded on his support for Trump by suggesting forced slavery is a conspiracy theory and that in practice, it was a choice by blacks.
When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years? That sounds like a choice, West argued. Like, you was there for 400 years and its all of yall?
Not everyone was impressed with West continuing to defend Trump.
I actually dont think youre thinking anything, shouted Van Lathan, from the TMZ newsroom, as he stood up. I think what youre doing right now is actually the absence of thought.

(102,127 posts)issue, but he surely does not know history nor does he seem to have any ability to relate to the problems affecting the wide swath of POC (or doesn't care) much like Ben Carson.
I think feminist women are disgusted, but accustomed to those women who basically sell us out in terms of our basic rights. But, I have to say it is jarring to see this kind of thing among prominent African Americans.
50 Shades Of Blue
(9,920 posts)I loathe him because I think Kanye West often behaves as if he is mentally ill and maybe he should be cut some slack for that. But OTOH, if he's smart and savvy enough to have become a very successful celebrity, he's smart enough to be aware of the history and dynamics of slavery and there is no excuse for what he said. And there is no excuse for him to be sucking up to Trump. It's disgusting.

50 Shades Of Blue
(9,920 posts)I say this as someone whose family and whose spouse's family has a number of bipolar disorder sufferers who I've seen in action many times over the years. That's what Kanye West's behavior reminds me of.

(9,527 posts)If he's actually stupid enough to believe that, or if he's doing it to get publicity. Either way, Kanye West is a blithering idiot who should be left behind like the talentless hack he's always been.

(4,265 posts)and so overrated, it's not funny.
He uses 20 producers, and multiple writers(10+) for every song and the result is still nauseating.
