What put it over the top for me is the accompanying rationale as stated by Paul Ryan.
Says a lot about the pathetic state of this country that such an idea sounds credible.

Now I've got to add: It sure is a sad commentary on the gullibility of some folks. It also points to the fact that 'Rump actually does things like this, why not Ryan? I used up everyone of my "you can't make up stuff like that" comments over a year ago.
one of the twitter feeds I read and thought . . . Uh oh. I don't have a twitter account so I couldn't respond. But it's an object lesson in how quickly posts get picked up, swarm and spread out, particularly if they sound like they might be true or correspond to our perceptions of what's going on.
I think most of us here realized this was satire and if we didn't MM cleared the question up in another post. But on twitter? These things are plucked as is and retweeted like wildfire.
That being said,

I've seen a number of 'fake news' posts on DU recently, I assume as humor.
Yet we decry and point out 'fake news' by those we oppose.
But, nice try. 
And all of the obvious elements necessary to see that it was obviously satire were there.
Here is a clue; When someone doesn't have any link and puts in a cartoon similie, probably satire.

If that didn't reveal it then the Republicans openly advocating increasing higher taxes for poor people should have gotten you over the line.

You really thought that any thinking person would read this and think it was real. If the absurd exaggeration on tax policy and the poor wasn't enough the spelling should have confirmed it.
No one is applauding "fake news". Satire is one of the oldest forms of political discourse and criticism including many of our common nursery rhymes (humpty dumpty) and goes all the way back to Aristophanes.
We aren't giving it up because you can't tell the difference between obvious satire and propogation of a false news report.
to post any more satirical stuff. It probably won't live up to that Ryan/Osteen one. Suddenly, I have writer's block.
However, a few days rest and a few gin and tonics, and I'll be back in the game again, I'm sure.
But I had no idea how famous MM would become worldwide.
The sad but somewhat amusing part is how some people just don't get satire.
